Unknown Speaker (0:53): On the thingy.
Unknown Speaker (0:54): Yeah. The thingy is where you get all your podcasts.
Grand Schwabini (0:58): Spotify or anywhere you get your freaking podcasts. And, of course, want you to subscribe on YouTube at the sports sports podcast. Amy's already here in the comments. Amy. Number one fan.
Unknown Speaker (1:11): I mean, look.
Unknown Speaker (1:12): Number one fan.
Grand Schwabini (1:13): Look. She is 100%. Yeah. I mean, we need buy her a T shirt. Number one fan.
Unknown Speaker (1:18): Actually, you you wanna know what, Amy? We're gonna get you a T shirt. Number one fan. And then the next time you come down to Trader Joe's, I'm gonna expect you to be wearing it.
Unknown Speaker (1:26): There you go. Yeah. Which will be Okay. Tomorrow, probably.
Unknown Speaker (1:29): I don't know. You should I mean, North Hills She
Speaker 1 (1:32): actually just did something that you might consider unforgivable. She was at Whole Foods this afternoon.
Unknown Speaker (1:38): Oh, no. That's not unforgivable. It's just stupid because it costs so much. Yeah. But they don't they
Hockey Jesus (1:44): don't Sometimes you gotta get things that Trader Joe's just doesn't have.
Unknown Speaker (1:48): TJ's doesn't offer everything. That's right.
Unknown Speaker (1:51): Everything in Whole Foods, so the nice thing about Whole Foods is it's it's everything's whole.
Unknown Speaker (1:56): Yeah. Everything is whole. It's not half?
Unknown Speaker (1:58): Yeah. Whole Foods.
Unknown Speaker (1:58): You know what? We're gonna start a new grocery store. We're gonna call it
Unknown Speaker (2:01): half foods. Half foods.
Unknown Speaker (2:02): Half foods.
Unknown Speaker (2:03): Actually, it has a nice little ring. It does. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (2:05): No. It does.
Unknown Speaker (2:06): Then what's in it? What do you get? Like half a hot dog?
Unknown Speaker (2:09): Yeah. Everything's everything's a half. Everything's a half and a half off.
Unknown Speaker (2:12): I think it's I I think it's
Unknown Speaker (2:14): half Same
Unknown Speaker (2:14): amount of a half brained idea.
Unknown Speaker (2:17): Okay. Well, we can also call it half brained.
Unknown Speaker (2:20): That's that's what they all said.
Unknown Speaker (2:21): Absolutely. That's what we should need.
Unknown Speaker (2:23): That's what they said before the invention. That's what they said before the invention of the toilet.
Unknown Speaker (2:27): Drek, we all have a half brain.
Grand Schwabini (2:30): Third, a third, a third. It's less than that. Okay. Let's get to the show. This is the dead zone, and we're awfully glad you're here.
Grand Schwabini (2:37): If you're watching us on X, hit that follow button as well every Monday night, 7PM eastern time. You know, there's a lot going on in the sports world. We all know about it. The World Cup, you know, I think HJ has been paying attention to the World Cup. I myself have not.
Grand Schwabini (2:52): I I I apologize. I don't even know why I'm apologizing. I I'm just not I played soccer in high school and for a
Unknown Speaker (2:59): I accept your apology.
Unknown Speaker (3:00): Thank you.
Hockey Jesus (3:01): The whole of The United States accept your apology.
Unknown Speaker (3:03): But I'm just not I'm just not in
Hockey Jesus (3:05): there. Whole world is revolving around. But I
Speaker 1 (3:08): have nothing to get into. I watched the very beginning of the game, and I was like, oh, okay. USA might be pretty good. Let's see what happens. Start us off own goal.
Hockey Jesus (3:17): It always starts out with the own goal.
Speaker 1 (3:19): I mean, like, You know, come on.
Grand Schwabini (3:21): What do you mean own goal? They they they they scored on themselves. Right.
Unknown Speaker (3:25): You know, like I mean, it was a beautiful pass.
Unknown Speaker (3:27): It was a pass, and some guy tried to block the pass, and he hit it into his own goal.
Unknown Speaker (3:30): Happens all the time.
Unknown Speaker (3:31): Yeah. Okay. It's kinda like, okay. Did we really even score? I guess so.
Unknown Speaker (3:35): Okay. So like I was saying, HJ, I think has paid a little bit of attention to it. Chris Chada
Hockey Jesus (3:41): more attention what's been going on off the field.
Grand Schwabini (3:44): Oh, well, we're actually getting some comments on this, you know, right now. Chris Chada, please know World Cup talk. Pat off track messy with two goals, but he missed the easy one. College club series has been good. I don't know, man.
Unknown Speaker (3:58): I thought I did too. I don't know.
Hockey Jesus (4:00): Pat, didn't he have three goals? You're you're trolling us.
Grand Schwabini (4:03): Maybe. But missed the easy one? Maybe. Maybe not. I all I know is that I I'm not one of those people who who, like, poo poo soccer and says, you know, the people that don't like soccer and all that.
Unknown Speaker (4:14): I think soccer is it's a it's a really cool and it's a great sport. I played it. Watching it is difficult. It's just difficult. Not enough scoring for me.
Speaker 1 (4:20): Here's here's here's what I can tell you about soccer. This weekend, I watched my niece in Boardman, Ohio playing, you know, some pretty high level golf. Like, we're talking people were there from, like, Hong Kong and Korea. Wow. Wow.
Speaker 1 (4:38): And California and stuff like that.
Unknown Speaker (4:40): Alright.
Speaker 1 (4:41): And I just gotta tell you, like, I mean, I thought about these other nieces that I have who play soccer and, like, they travel for soccer.
Unknown Speaker (4:50): Right.
Speaker 1 (4:50): And I'm like, it's not even close which sport is more difficult. It's not even close. Like like, basically, in soccer, like, you're you gotta if you gotta be really fast, and you gotta have skills with your feet.
Unknown Speaker (5:05): Yeah. You gotta I mean, a lot. You gotta have you gotta have mad skills with
Unknown Speaker (5:09): your feet.
Unknown Speaker (5:09): Right. Right.
Hockey Jesus (5:09): But it's do have to be in fantastic shape. The run up and down the field like
Speaker 1 (5:13): You do. But, I mean, to hit a ball and avoid all the treachery along the way.
Unknown Speaker (5:19): And then and
Speaker 1 (5:19): then then to hit, like, putts in from, like, 20 feet.
Unknown Speaker (5:23): It's, know, on
Unknown Speaker (5:23): a slope.
Hockey Jesus (5:24): It's a different skill.
Unknown Speaker (5:25): Yeah. It's completely different.
Hockey Jesus (5:27): Is way different. Yeah. Yeah. That's what's so great about sports. You know?
Hockey Jesus (5:31): You can you can be terrible at running, but, if you know the physics behind hitting a ball and you can just get those mechanics going Yep. You can be a star.
Unknown Speaker (5:40): Like like Kyle Schwarber. That's all he does is hit home runs and walk.
Unknown Speaker (5:44): Yeah. Sure. You know?
Unknown Speaker (5:45): Sure. No. I'm I'm being I'm being serious.
Unknown Speaker (5:46): No. No. Right.
Unknown Speaker (5:47): Like, absolutely.
Unknown Speaker (5:48): He's got it down. Right?
Unknown Speaker (5:49): Yep.
Hockey Jesus (5:49): Mhmm. And he knows how not to get hit by a pitch in the head.
Unknown Speaker (5:53): Right.
Unknown Speaker (5:53): That's important.
Unknown Speaker (5:54): He does. Yeah. And he's pretty big. I mean, if I was pitching, I'd probably hit him. Oh.
Unknown Speaker (5:58): By accident. I mean, he's so huge.
Hockey Jesus (6:00): Well, you just you just dealt your cards there. Yeah. You said you would hit him and then you said by accident. We we already know the intent.
Unknown Speaker (6:08): No. I I I love Kyle Schwarber. He's on my fantasy team. He's the only reason I'm still alive.
Speaker 1 (6:13): The footwork at the World Cup level is amazing.
Unknown Speaker (6:17): See, Mike Mike's a football fan.
Unknown Speaker (6:19): Yeah. I mean, let's be sure. Sure. You know? I mean okay.
Unknown Speaker (6:24): I mean, I'm gonna run with this as a real. It's like you'd Where he says it's soccer is is that golf is harder than soccer.
Unknown Speaker (6:31): Oh, yeah.
Unknown Speaker (6:31): I'm gonna run with that.
Hockey Jesus (6:32): Oh, yeah. He's gonna get he's gonna get filleted.
Unknown Speaker (6:34): I don't think there's any question that what? That golf is harder than soccer. Okay.
Unknown Speaker (6:39): I don't
Unknown Speaker (6:40): even think there's a question.
Unknown Speaker (6:41): We'll see. Clip this. We'll see.
Unknown Speaker (6:44): I mean, look.
Unknown Speaker (6:44): I I look. I've seen I've
Unknown Speaker (6:46): seen the highlights of Messi and the stuff that
Unknown Speaker (6:48): he can do, and he's absolutely amazing. But let's just be honest.
Hockey Jesus (6:51): There's not lot of Messi's out there.
Unknown Speaker (6:53): No. There's not a lot of Messi's out there. No. You know, you got Messi, you got Ronaldo, you got Mbappe. You know, you got a few guys.
Speaker 1 (7:01): But but the bottom line is is, like, those guys are so much better than everybody else. Everybody else just looks like me out there.
Unknown Speaker (7:08): Like you? Yeah. Like me. I don't think so.
Unknown Speaker (7:10): Maybe. Maybe. I think that's a little odd.
Unknown Speaker (7:12): Slightly thinner version of
Unknown Speaker (7:13): that.
Unknown Speaker (7:13): Thinner version. By the way, I I I I just realized this. I wanna address
Unknown Speaker (7:17): this guy. 93.
Grand Schwabini (7:18): If you're watching and you're looking at HJ there across from me, it looks like he's got some paper towels and stuff. MacGyver at Paper towels. Right? Right. Where am I going there?
Unknown Speaker (7:27): Right there.
Unknown Speaker (7:28): It's right here.
Unknown Speaker (7:28): I can It's a MacGyver job. Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (7:30): Because I I walk I walked up to the studio today, which is on the back porch where we've been lately. Mhmm. And, the microphone's just laying there.
Unknown Speaker (7:38): Yep.
Hockey Jesus (7:38): And I'm like, this is a problem. Chris was like, no. No. You'll just hold it.
Unknown Speaker (7:42): Did the
Hockey Jesus (7:42): person I am not going to hold a microphone for an hour and fifteen minutes.
Speaker 1 (7:47): Did the person who was in charge of preparation do anything to help you?
Hockey Jesus (7:51): He got me the paper towel.
Speaker 1 (7:53): Oh, so he got your paper towel to help you.
Hockey Jesus (7:55): So I guess that worked.
Speaker 1 (7:56): While also mocking you and saying that you're an engineer and I don't think you can do this.
Hockey Jesus (8:00): This this told him if I had duct tape, this would be a impenetrable job.
Unknown Speaker (8:06): Yes. This is the level of entitlement that I have to work with around here.
Unknown Speaker (8:10): I just.
Unknown Speaker (8:10): Yeah. Just wanted to go there. I knew all I had to do was push it a little and there it would go.
Unknown Speaker (8:15): Oh, yeah. Before we leave the world cup.
Unknown Speaker (8:17): Down down the hill.
Unknown Speaker (8:18): Yeah. Let's a little about the world cup.
Hockey Jesus (8:20): You wanna leave the world cup, so we should we should just hit the highlights.
Speaker 1 (8:24): $600 for parking.
Unknown Speaker (8:26): Yeah. Now, actually, did you
Unknown Speaker (8:28): hear That sounds a little different than the NFL draft down here. You know what I'm saying?
Unknown Speaker (8:32): Did you hear that the prices are actually coming down on the tickets? Are they? Yeah, they are. I, which is strange. They.
Unknown Speaker (8:38): Well, it's because most of the fans are so freaking hang hungover. It's gonna take them three weeks to recover from the first game they went to.
Hockey Jesus (8:44): I know. Well, that's definitely some of the you know, off field shenanigans which we'll also talk about in a second but I mean, the fact that The United States are already in the knockout round is pretty incredible. It's them, Germany, Mexico. I think they're the only three. I think there might be one other one.
Hockey Jesus (9:00): But definitely those three well, yeah, Germany, Mexico, United States. So, I mean, there's gonna be 32, but they're in the top they're they're basically one of the first three teams to get to the knockout round. I mean, you you either have to have a really weak group, which they do. Mhmm. And you just have to win your first two games, and they have.
Hockey Jesus (9:20): So I don't know. I mean, they won without Pulisic. So, I mean, he's their star. That's good. That Freeman showed up.
Unknown Speaker (9:28): Antonio Freeman's son.
Hockey Jesus (9:29): Yeah. Pat's been talking. Pat Offtrack's been talking about him as a as a potential superstar. So he stepped up his game. You know, whatever.
Hockey Jesus (9:37): I mean, you might not like it, but the world loves the game, the World Cup that happens. And now that we're hosting it in The United States and in Canada and in Mexico, You gotta be excited about it. I mean, everybody else is. Did you see the fans going crazy?
Unknown Speaker (9:53): Oh, yeah. They're Did
Hockey Jesus (9:54): you see what Norway was doing with that rowboat thing in the stands? Yeah. That's just that's just so great. I mean, that's crazy. Right about it and and I think I put this on the on the thumb at the beginning, the the all the statues with the cones on their head.
Hockey Jesus (10:08): You see that? Scotland's taken over Boston and that's what they do, I guess. To show that they're in the city, they get cones and they put them on. They just put them on random.
Unknown Speaker (10:18): Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (10:19): Thanks.
Unknown Speaker (10:20): There you go. That's the that's the thumbnail right there.
Unknown Speaker (10:22): Yep. Right there.
Speaker 1 (10:23): Is that stealing the pirate's thunder at all?
Hockey Jesus (10:25): I think the pirates probably are going to sue them over that. Yep. Because they own the nobody can hoist a cone like the pirates. But they're not hoisting a cone. They're just basically putting it on heads of Mhmm.
Unknown Speaker (10:38): Various statues in Boston. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:39): So I mean, look. There's not much else on. It's it's, you know, it's watchable.
Hockey Jesus (10:43): Yeah. And, you know, I nobody I don't I mean, I don't have any delusions of grandeur. I think they'll probably lose the first game they play in a knockout round. Probably. But it's fun while they're still in it.
Hockey Jesus (10:54): Yeah. They're gonna be they get to play a basically a free game verse. And explain this to me. How did how did it become Turkeye? It wasn't always Turkey?
Unknown Speaker (11:03): Yeah. I don't understand.
Unknown Speaker (11:05): What happened to Turkey?
Grand Schwabini (11:06): Somebody somebody finally explained to them what a Turkey was over here. Oh, yeah.
Hockey Jesus (11:11): Well, we can't have that. Be Turkey. We have to be Turkey.
Grand Schwabini (11:14): They were basically, like, you know, every November about. Every November, America celebrates by basically eating a replica of your country. And they were like, we can't have that. We gotta but
Unknown Speaker (11:24): but but we gotta keep even eat
Unknown Speaker (11:26): turkey there. I know. That's that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (11:29): Yeah. Who knows? It's pretty easy shit. It's another mystery like Pluto not being a planet. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (11:33): Yeah. And Kiev when it became Kyiv.
Unknown Speaker (11:36): Yeah. Right. Exactly. Right.
Unknown Speaker (11:38): You know? Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (11:38): Yeah. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (11:39): Right. When did it become Kyiv?
Unknown Speaker (11:41): Like, when the war started.
Unknown Speaker (11:42): Oh, okay.
Unknown Speaker (11:42): Yeah. And it
Unknown Speaker (11:43): was all you're not saying. I mean, there's a war going on there still? Is. Oh my goodness.
Hockey Jesus (11:47): It's been going on for a while.
Grand Schwabini (11:48): Amazing. We haven't really given a shit about it for a while.
Unknown Speaker (11:53): Well, that that's that's gone up. Got it right. I mean Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (11:56): I mean, of course, the world cup is on.
Unknown Speaker (11:57): How
Hockey Jesus (11:58): can you drink so much beer that Boston no longer has any beer? I think that's crap. How how much beer do you have to drink to drink that much beer?
Grand Schwabini (12:05): That's crap. Or you know what? The Europeans have about a 2,000 head start on us genetically drinking alcohol.
Unknown Speaker (12:12): That is true.
Unknown Speaker (12:13): You know what
Unknown Speaker (12:13): I mean? I mean, yeah, a lot of us came over here, but you know what I'm saying?
Unknown Speaker (12:17): I do.
Unknown Speaker (12:18): Yeah. Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (12:18): I mean, that's coming from a professional too.
Hockey Jesus (12:20): Yeah. I know. I know. So you you think you think they really do have some beer left?
Unknown Speaker (12:25): Oh, yeah. There there there's beer left. There's a few rolling rocks. Are you kidding me? Rolling rocks.
Unknown Speaker (12:29): Now they got Sam Adams everywhere up there. They pour it in the fucking river. Maybe they should start They they tricking the river.
Unknown Speaker (12:35): So
Unknown Speaker (12:36): They pull it out of the river there, man. It's, what's the river? The Charles. Right? The Charles in Boston?
Unknown Speaker (12:40): Charles River.
Unknown Speaker (12:41): That's the Sam Adams River. That's where they get their water from.
Unknown Speaker (12:43): I like that. You should be Totally making this up. They should call it Sam Adams River. I like that.
Unknown Speaker (12:47): It should be.
Hockey Jesus (12:48): It's much better than the Charles River.
Unknown Speaker (12:50): Or the Paul Revere Mhmm. The Revere River. River Revere. Alright. Are we doing any more world cup stuff?
Unknown Speaker (12:55): Let's go. Keep going.
Unknown Speaker (12:56): Think I think off the field antics.
Hockey Jesus (12:58): I think we talked about that. That's what it is. Right? It's a fan. The other thing is, have you seen these videos where, you know, people who have never been to The United States, like go into a Walmart?
Unknown Speaker (13:08): I think I did. Mean, what what happened?
Hockey Jesus (13:12): Just they just they just walk in and they're amazed that you can like buy a television set for like $400 Yeah. And they're like, I don't think that'll fit in my in my luggage. Let's take it back to, you know, The UK with me. So the prices of things, they're just amazed how cheap things are. Mhmm.
Hockey Jesus (13:29): And the other thing is is like they go in like a seven eleven. They're like, look at all these options. Like, they're looking at all the combos. They were like, you even have pizza flavored combos. Like, we just take this for granted.
Hockey Jesus (13:40): Right. But there, everybody, they they get Interesting. Right. They go in and they're just like
Unknown Speaker (13:44): Inflation. Inflation, it's terrible.
Unknown Speaker (13:47): They just they just are amazing. People provide other places.
Unknown Speaker (13:49): They're like, oh my god. This is amazing. Let me
Grand Schwabini (13:51): tell you something. And this is a side note, but it is the dead zone and side notes are completely acceptable around here these days. But back in another lifetime, when I worked for a real estate company in the in the banking biz, I had the occasion to go to Paris and this was in 2000 and probably 08/2009. Don't remember the exact year.
Unknown Speaker (14:12): Yep.
Grand Schwabini (14:13): I spent like ten or eleven days over there.
Unknown Speaker (14:16): So it
Grand Schwabini (14:16): was a decent amount of time. And there were two things that stood out to me that I was told about before I went over that ended up being true. One, the price of gas was the equivalent 2008, 2009, the equivalent of 6 to $7 per gallon. And it was because it was like
Unknown Speaker (14:35): because it's by a little leader.
Grand Schwabini (14:37): It was well, was 5, it was like €5 a liter, which was the equivalent of like 6 to $7 a gallon. This is eighteen years ago. Right. And Coca Colas, like if you wanted a soft drink, they were 7 to $10 a piece. Right.
Unknown Speaker (14:53): You didn't get free
Unknown Speaker (14:53): Coke. Alright.
Grand Schwabini (14:55): So I was just happy to think about this the other day when I'm thinking like, you know, grocery prices are going up again. Yeah. The oil, all the bullshit that we don't talk about on this show that's going on right now.
Unknown Speaker (15:05): And I
Grand Schwabini (15:06): thought to myself, yeah, but eighteen years ago over in Europe, shit was still more expensive than it is now. I mean, I'm not I'm not poo pooing the inflation. It's a bitch.
Unknown Speaker (15:15): Of course.
Unknown Speaker (15:15): It's a bitch. But I'm looking at it going, what are they living at web with over there?
Hockey Jesus (15:19): Well, it's just a lifestyle. Like, for example, somebody ordered a Coke at dinner. Mhmm. And and he was like, I can drink as many of these as I want for the same price.
Unknown Speaker (15:29): Exactly. And he
Hockey Jesus (15:31): immediately just chugged it. Right. Right. And he sat it down and the waitress came over and said, would you like another? And he was like, I'm never leaving this country.
Hockey Jesus (15:41): I think he was he was with either his mom or his he was he was he wasn't a kid. He was probably in his twenties. Yeah. But it and she was like, you you know how much sugar that has in it. He was like, I don't care.
Unknown Speaker (15:53): Yeah. I mean, yeah. I I I don't care. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:56): With with those with those goodies comes your American obesity.
Grand Schwabini (16:01): Yeah. Well, absolutely. That that
Hockey Jesus (16:03): is true. The the last thing I wanna mention about the off the field stuff is they would be walking around. I think this this this one group of guys traveled to Miami, and they got in, and they're just walking around Miami, and they were like, it's so safe. He was like, I could never walk like like at 02:00 in the morning around wherever I live and he didn't I didn't I didn't know where he he came from. But and he was just like, this is the greatest thing.
Hockey Jesus (16:30): I can walk wherever I want. Nobody's gonna stop me. I don't have to worry about, you know, losing any of my freedoms if I walk across the street. And he says, and the internet is the best because you can you can you basically can post a meme and not have to worry about somebody fining you because the meme was illegal. So so, you know, these are just things that I think we take for granted as Americans.
Hockey Jesus (16:56): Mhmm. And it's so great to see other people come experience our culture. And these are people here who have never been over here before. So it's brand new to them. Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (17:04): And, you know, it's something that I, like I said, we take for granted, we shouldn't. And it's just so great watching it for the first time from people who are coming over and having a great time. They're here for the soccer. Mhmm. They're not here, you know, to experience The United States, but
Unknown Speaker (17:18): as I think here for the soccer and to experience it.
Hockey Jesus (17:22): As they're experiencing it, it's you know, at least the people who are online and, you know, you can't believe everything you see online. Right. But it's it's definitely something that's taking over the internet. Watch for more as as it keeps going. I'm sure eventually somebody will have some negative things to say.
Hockey Jesus (17:38): And it'll be equally as fun to to hear the negative news they have.
Unknown Speaker (17:42): Somebody will be a solid.
Unknown Speaker (17:43): I mean, I I I think if if
Unknown Speaker (17:45): Something. You You know?
Grand Schwabini (17:46): If you look at if you look at it, I mean, that's the one thing that separates, the The United States from the rest of the sports world. Like, every other country, pretty much, lots and lots of other countries, they focus on soccer. They focus on the leagues in their country.
Unknown Speaker (18:03): Right.
Unknown Speaker (18:04): It's it's their sport.
Unknown Speaker (18:05): Yep.
Grand Schwabini (18:05): And it's spread across the world. Mhmm. And the The US, of course, we have football Yeah. And baseball. That's really And and it's it it it toggles back and forth between both.
Grand Schwabini (18:15): Both secondary NBA where, you know, we're bringing basketball to the world, but we just can't get our, our, our people into soccer the way that the Europeans have. But again, soccer is a game that was played by native peoples thousands of years ago. You know, they weren't tossing a football around. So
Speaker 1 (18:34): Although I will I will say this, though. I I do find it interesting that one of the best soccer players on team USA is Antonio Freeman's son.
Unknown Speaker (18:43): Right. He decided to choose he chose
Unknown Speaker (18:45): soccer.
Unknown Speaker (18:46): Chose soccer. That's pretty cool.
Unknown Speaker (18:48): Probably because his dad said, you don't want CTE and the concussions that come with playing football. Yeah. You're probably right
Unknown Speaker (18:54): about that.
Speaker 1 (18:55): You know? Yeah. Probably. So you might see a trend of better athletes choosing soccer over our typical sports here.
Grand Schwabini (19:04): Yeah. That's a really interesting point, Schwaber. It really is. I mean, you're looking at it from a professional standpoint. It's like, you know, there's definitely not the concussions.
Unknown Speaker (19:13): I mean, you have other injuries, but, yeah, I I I think it
Hockey Jesus (19:17): will Yeah. That's a permanent injury you can't heal. Like, you get your arm broken, okay, you can fix that. If you get your head sloshed around, that's a permanent You see these you see these things like
Speaker 1 (19:27): that Alden Smith dying at like 31.
Unknown Speaker (19:30): Yeah. It's horrible.
Speaker 1 (19:31): And they're sending his brain to be, you know, researched.
Grand Schwabini (19:34): I actually I actually okay. That just reminded me of something I wanna talk about later in the show that I totally forgot about. So I I I apologize for that interruption, but
Hockey Jesus (19:45): Well, I think the one thing is true. If you're a world class athlete, you're gonna gravitate to the sport that's number one in your country. And in The United States, it tends to be mostly football. Mhmm. In in Europe, it tends to be their their football, which is our soccer.
Unknown Speaker (20:02): Right.
Hockey Jesus (20:03): So in Mark Madden said this a thousand times. He he and I think it's true that Ronaldo, if he was born in The United States, probably would have been a strong safety or a tight end. You know? Mhmm. He wouldn't have played soccer.
Hockey Jesus (20:15): Mhmm. He but he he would have take his athleticism and just transferred it to football, and he probably would have been an all pro, you know, because he's just such a great athlete. Mhmm. And it's just about learning the sport you wanna learn. And, you know, Fantoniou Freeman's son, you know, wanted to go for soccer because his dad said, no football for you.
Hockey Jesus (20:33): He's great at it. And I think that just goes to show that that is absolutely true.
Unknown Speaker (20:38): Mhmm.
Hockey Jesus (20:38): And that's it for the World Cup segment. We'll be back next week with more.
Unknown Speaker (20:43): Probably too much World Cup.
Grand Schwabini (20:46): Yeah. I'm, I'm updating here. I'm updating stuff. Okay. So World Cup wise, yeah, we've we've had our discussion there.
Grand Schwabini (20:54): If you have any comments about it, please leave in the chat. It'll show up on the screen. We might get you on the show. Remember, I do drop this as a podcast right after the show and the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, Spotify, or anywhere you get your frigging podcasts at it right that time. If you haven't already clicked that subscribe button, hit notifications.
Grand Schwabini (21:12): You'll know when we're live every single Monday night, 7PM sports porch, black and gold, grand Schwab, beanie, HJ sitting across from me. We gotta do it guys. We absolutely, we gotta do it. We gotta talk pirates. I mean The Pirate.
Grand Schwabini (21:26): Yes. The pirates.
Unknown Speaker (21:29): No. They won.
Hockey Jesus (21:30): They won no Sunday game.
Speaker 1 (21:31): I think they won the Sunday game.
Grand Schwabini (21:32): So there's five Diving into the Pirates mediocrity, can Paul Skeens and Henry Davis spark a turnaround? Now Henry Davis, that's kind of a joke. I'm I'm gonna start with I'm gonna start with this, and and I've been doing this a lot more. Yes. Chris Chauda says, skeins six and seven.
Grand Schwabini (21:49): Can you handle putting the comments up when whenever we talk about them? You know what mean? The screen.
Unknown Speaker (21:53): Thank you. I had to do the six. Yeah. If if
Unknown Speaker (21:55): I bring it up, pop it up there. It just makes it easier because I'm trying to
Unknown Speaker (21:57): Yeah. I can pull them up.
Unknown Speaker (21:58): Do other stuff. So anyway
Hockey Jesus (21:59): Even though my microphone is kinda blocked.
Unknown Speaker (22:01): Alright. That's enough. Provided all. Can do it. Stop being entitled.
Unknown Speaker (22:05): Just I can
Unknown Speaker (22:05): do know, get along with the program.
Unknown Speaker (22:07): I can
Grand Schwabini (22:07): An excellent job in fixing your microphone with that
Unknown Speaker (22:10): I expect
Unknown Speaker (22:10): Jerry Riggs.
Unknown Speaker (22:11): Schemes. Schemes now. Anybody has this part, send me.
Grand Schwabini (22:15): That's not. That's that's not. We're going in a new direction, Mike.
Unknown Speaker (22:18): Is schemes now is schemes now officially We're
Grand Schwabini (22:21): not going schemes. I wanna I wanna save that because I have some graphics. I have some stuff I created. What if I wanna go schemes? Well, you know what I mean?
Unknown Speaker (22:28): You can go schemes. Go schemes. You just go all skiing. In your head. In your head.
Unknown Speaker (22:33): Keep it quiet. Know that I wanna do two shows, one in my head and one online.
Unknown Speaker (22:37): Oh, it seems like you're always doing two
Technical Director (22:38): shows, one in your head and one online.
Grand Schwabini (22:41): Alright. Listen. I I wanna talk about this. I I I started listening to Mark Madden a little bit more. And, HJ, I know you like him or you listen to him.
Unknown Speaker (22:49): Well, yeah. I'm I'm coming home from work when you're talking.
Unknown Speaker (22:53): Yeah. It's usually at lunch. Right. You know, overwork. And and of course, I get the risk.
Unknown Speaker (22:57): And the guy's brilliant.
Unknown Speaker (22:58): You know what? I hate when he calls himself the genius. What does he call himself? The evil genius,
Unknown Speaker (23:04): super genius,
Unknown Speaker (23:05): He is an evil super.
Grand Schwabini (23:06): He's making fun of himself by saying super genius, but he's also pointing out the fact that a lot of times he's right, which I think is great. And
Unknown Speaker (23:13): He's seen a lot of sports.
Grand Schwabini (23:14): I feel the same way about myself, but here's the thing. I I I I really appreciate how he's hammering Henry Davis and the Pirates.
Hockey Jesus (23:24): He wants them out of he wants them out of baseball.
Unknown Speaker (23:26): I got a guy I got a guy at work who defends Henry Davis. And this guy
Unknown Speaker (23:31): mean defend his
Grand Schwabini (23:33): Well, let me just give you this guy's creds real quick. He's a legitimate Pirates fan. Yep. He watches every game, either the whole game or part of it. Alright.
Grand Schwabini (23:41): You know, depending upon his work schedule. But he's got it on at work. I get a five every five minutes, I get a frigging update from Warren. Mhmm. Shout out to Warren if he's gonna listen tonight.
Grand Schwabini (23:50): But he wants Henry Davis on the Pirates because of the Skenes connection.
Unknown Speaker (23:55): Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (23:56): Listen. Chris Davis has the lowest recorded, unfortunately, of my beautiful Baltimore Orioles, beloved Baltimore Orioles. Lowest recorded full season, you know, eligible for, you know, the batting title, all that stuff. Right. Average
Unknown Speaker (24:11): of what?
Unknown Speaker (24:12): One sixty eight. Okay. Chris Davis.
Unknown Speaker (24:15): Well, he's he's he's got a real good shot at breaking that.
Grand Schwabini (24:18): Yes. He's batting one thirty six. Mhmm. Alright. And and and this is gonna lead into Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (24:23): This is gonna lead into where you wanna go with Paul Skeens. Mhmm. It's gonna lead into it. That's why I wanted you to bear with me.
Unknown Speaker (24:28): You think so?
Unknown Speaker (24:29): He's Paul Skeens catcher. Right. Okay. He's Paul Skeens catcher.
Unknown Speaker (24:36): Got
Unknown Speaker (24:36): it. Alright. I'm gonna put this graphic up.
Unknown Speaker (24:38): Which I agree is stupid. I
Unknown Speaker (24:39): I I think
Speaker 1 (24:40): I've seen that many teams do that. They have, like, the best pitcher, and they've got the personal catcher.
Grand Schwabini (24:45): Yeah. But the personal catcher is not as bad as Henry Davis. A lot of times they're, you know, they're average hitter, whatever. Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (24:50): Henry Davis is historically bad.
Grand Schwabini (24:52): Yeah. I I think it's fine. Yeah. If there's if you got that connection, that's very important. And if they can if they can produce at the plate at a at an acceptable level.
Unknown Speaker (25:01): If they hit two thirty eight.
Grand Schwabini (25:02): Yeah. If they hit two forty, if they hit two eighty, awesome. You know? So anyway, so I saw this online. I I can't give credit to whoever put it up there.
Grand Schwabini (25:12): I don't know if they actually created it or not, but this is and and it caused me to do something here. I'm gonna I'm gonna put the comments away, for a quick second. Paul Skeens, as of today, is his walk to home run ratio is two to one, which is insane for a starter. 18 walks to nine home runs, and his whip is point 93, a career low, but he is six and seven. Now do you think if Henry Davis was batting two fifty?
Grand Schwabini (25:43): Two fifty. It's a 120 points higher. Right. Do you think Paul Skeens would be six and seven? No.
Grand Schwabini (25:52): I think he'd be he's had 16 starts.
Unknown Speaker (25:56): Right.
Grand Schwabini (25:57): He'd probably be ten and six, 10 and, I don't know, eleven and five. Not lights out, but you're talking
Unknown Speaker (26:05): Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (26:05): You know, this this makes no sense to me. So then
Unknown Speaker (26:08): Right.
Grand Schwabini (26:09): So then I went back and I decided I'm gonna look at, other pitchers that have these kind of stats through 16 games of the season Alright. Since 1980, because I think all of us around him, we were alive in the seventies. Yeah. We know the names, but I don't remember them pitching the eighties. I remember watching a lot of these guys pitch.
Grand Schwabini (26:29): How many do you think are on this list?
Unknown Speaker (26:31): Three.
Unknown Speaker (26:32): Okay. Seven.
Grand Schwabini (26:34): Okay. Okay. So we're gonna go right to this. Here are the elite starting pitchers that that pitching season since 1980 with these metrics. Pedro Martinez in '99, whip 92, 2.4, walks to home runs, eleven and three.
Grand Schwabini (26:53): Eleven and three and sixteen starts. Alright. I'm not gonna go over all the stats. I'll
Unknown Speaker (26:58): just do
Grand Schwabini (26:58): I'll just do the record. Greg Maddox in 95, same or comparable stats, close stats. Mhmm. You know, four to one walks the home or 3.1. Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (27:08): Little higher, but close enough. Eight and one. Eight and one after 16 starts. Kershaw in 2016, eleven and two after 16 starts. DeGrom, 2018, not as great, but five and three.
Speaker 1 (27:21): He played for worst teams.
Grand Schwabini (27:22): Right? Verlander in '22, November. Grankey, 2015, August. Kluber, 2017, seven and three. Cliff Lee.
Grand Schwabini (27:31): Remember that guy?
Speaker 1 (27:32): By the way, I said 7. There's eight.
Grand Schwabini (27:34): There you go. Mhmm. So Cliff Lee, this was this his Phillies year 2010, or did you, like, you wanted nine?
Unknown Speaker (27:40): It was
Unknown Speaker (27:40): probably with the Phillies.
Grand Schwabini (27:41): Okay. So, eight and three. Paul Skeens, 93 whip, two point o walks to home run, six and seven. Six and seven. I'm gonna tell you right now, right here, right now, this is the reason that Paul Skeens will not complete his career or even come close to signing another contract with his team.
Grand Schwabini (28:03): He will not be here. He won't. Okay? He just won't. Because he can have a a start to a year like this that is up there with some of the greatest pitchers in history.
Grand Schwabini (28:17): And by the way, I don't remember when these guys rookie years were. I mean, Greg Maddox was a vet at that time. Martinez was a vet. Do you know what I mean? Like they've been pitching for many years.
Grand Schwabini (28:26): This is his third year and he's throwing up these stats. People are saying schemes is doing worse than last year. Not, not really,
Unknown Speaker (28:36): Not really. I mean,
Grand Schwabini (28:37): the FACE is velocity is down, but he's located pitches. His his walk to home run ratio is much better. His strikeouts are up. He's got a 107 strikeouts. Look, he's he's This team is not he had why would he ever want to play for this team?
Hockey Jesus (28:50): He wants out. You know what's interesting? Maybe he's creating this to himself by having Henry Davis in there. Maybe if he had a, if he had a catcher who could actually hit the ball, he would win more games. You know what I mean?
Hockey Jesus (29:05): By having Henry Davis in there, he's deflating the amount of runs that they can possibly score.
Unknown Speaker (29:10): And that's you're blaming it on Paul Skeens.
Hockey Jesus (29:12): No. No. I'm just saying that he could be contributing to it because if you need more runs just slightly more runs, wouldn't one or two more hits from your catcher help get you one or two more runs every game?
Unknown Speaker (29:25): Right.
Unknown Speaker (29:25): It just makes sense.
Unknown Speaker (29:26): Basically, the
Hockey Jesus (29:27): issue I'm not blaming schemes. I'm just saying it's dumb that the manager lets him do this. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (29:32): There you go. And there you go.
Hockey Jesus (29:34): If you had a real manager who would say, I have a real catcher. He will get you. He will catch you just as good of a game, and he will score three more runs for you. Do you want Henry Davis? Right.
Hockey Jesus (29:46): You may want him, but I'm getting rid of him. He should he should he should he should do a money ball. I'm okay. You can't play him anymore because I just traded it. That's what he should do.
Grand Schwabini (29:59): Well and and and that and and you yeah. At first, I thought you were going in a different direction, but, yes, you totally feel my vibe. This is not a Paul Skeens problem.
Hockey Jesus (30:06): No. No. I'm not blaming him, but he is contributing to the problem.
Grand Schwabini (30:10): They're letting him call that shot.
Hockey Jesus (30:12): Right. And the management is letting him do it. And and if they don't let him do it, then maybe he gets pissed off. He's leaving anyways. You're absolutely right.
Unknown Speaker (30:20): That's exactly what I'm saying.
Hockey Jesus (30:21): Don't care. Yep. At least you have a spine towards this. Yeah. You know?
Grand Schwabini (30:25): Yeah. So I I I look. The the when it comes to the lineup, when it comes to guys like O'Hern, he had an injury. Lau, he had an injury. Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (30:35): Cruz had an injury. That's normal baseball. I mean, you know, who on the Billies has had an injury this year? Who on, you know, on the Mets? Who on the it doesn't matter.
Unknown Speaker (30:47): They all get injured.
Grand Schwabini (30:48): That's part of the deal. Now now you can break it down and say there was poor I feel like there was poor planning behind these signings for who are we gonna plug in afterwards. And and I missed a big injury, Connor Griffin, of course. But, you know, the bottom line is that we are right back to a, you know, obviously we know there's a bullpen issue, but really, we don't really have a professional manager on this team. No.
Grand Schwabini (31:14): Shelty was horrible. You know, Don Kelly's look, he's a he's a hometown boy. Great. That's awesome. I mean, it really is.
Grand Schwabini (31:23): It really is. But you wanna win? I mean, you pick the hometown boy over Francona, who is also happens to be kind of a hometown boy, a real manager, at least.
Unknown Speaker (31:34): A manager.
Grand Schwabini (31:36): And there there we are again. So now the pirates are willing to spend a little bit more money. They did sign kind of Griffin. They they got these two free agents short term, by the way.
Unknown Speaker (31:45): That's true.
Grand Schwabini (31:46): But they don't wanna, they don't wanna put, you know, management in place that understands how to really manage a game. This guy
Hockey Jesus (31:53): Take it to the next level.
Grand Schwabini (31:54): This guy's learning on the job. I get it. I mean, it's not like he doesn't know baseball, but he's learning on the job. Yeah. You're not gonna expect it.
Grand Schwabini (32:01): You can't expect anything. And it's I I I think it's a shame. I think personally right now at this point, just get it over with. Trade Paul Skeens. Get it over with.
Unknown Speaker (32:13): I don't want him to go. I don't want him to go.
Hockey Jesus (32:15): I say trade Henry Davis.
Unknown Speaker (32:16): Well, who are who are you? You trade him to the sports porch. We'll let him sit here and and talk. Right? Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (32:22): You can't I don't know. Three is enough.
Unknown Speaker (32:24): To be honest. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (32:25): Yeah. I don't know if we want
Unknown Speaker (32:26): him on
Unknown Speaker (32:26): the show.
Unknown Speaker (32:27): He might be quiet if he's too let's go to quiet Henry on the corner.
Unknown Speaker (32:32): He can be a roving reporter.
Grand Schwabini (32:34): Well, I mean, you know, a lot of people break a lot of this stuff down. They break down Nick Gonzalez off to a hot start. Now he's cooling off lately. Cruz, his defensive issues. Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (32:42): But he's, and he's regressing to the mean in his batting average. Connor Griffin, what could he do if he was back in the lineup? All like we're we're we're falling right back into this very poorly managed ball club.
Hockey Jesus (32:53): At least they're 500 right now.
Unknown Speaker (32:54): It's really That's really That is true.
Speaker 1 (32:57): It's still really is more than anything, the bullpen. If they had a better if they had a better bullpen this year,
Unknown Speaker (33:03): they could
Hockey Jesus (33:04): and got a guy. Right? They traded Joey Bart for an arm.
Unknown Speaker (33:07): Yeah. But but what I'm saying is
Grand Schwabini (33:08): this guy last year and brought him back.
Unknown Speaker (33:10): Right. I'm I'm basically saying
Unknown Speaker (33:11): He's off
Speaker 1 (33:12): the junk pile. They they could potentially have another five, six wins if they had addressed the, bullpen before the year started.
Hockey Jesus (33:19): Yeah. If they would at least got a couple lefties to be in the bullpen.
Unknown Speaker (33:22): Well and
Hockey Jesus (33:22): and let's everybody knew.
Grand Schwabini (33:24): And let's let's think let's think about this right now. I mean, if you go if you go to, the standings in Major League Baseball right now, the pirates at thirty nine and thirty nine, we just talked about the fact that, you know, maybe if, Davis maybe if Davis was hitting, you know, two fifty, let's just say two forty.
Hockey Jesus (33:45): Two twenty five. Schemes. A 100 up.
Grand Schwabini (33:48): Well, let's let's use some concrete stats here. Let's just say two thirds. K. Schemes is hitting two thirty instead of six and seven because the only time or Davis is hitting two thirty.
Unknown Speaker (33:58): Two
Grand Schwabini (33:58): thirty. Basically, the only time Davis plays is when Skeens is pitching. It's rare that he I mean, he may spot, it's rare. So, you know, Davis is batting two thirty instead of six and seven. Paul Skeens is, let's go very conservative and say he has three more wins and one less loss.
Grand Schwabini (34:18): So now he's nine and six.
Unknown Speaker (34:20): Although Hold
Grand Schwabini (34:21): on. Let me finish. Nine and six. So that would put them at Perfect. Forty two and thirty seven, which puts them in second place behind the brewers.
Speaker 1 (34:31): Didn't we play this game at the start of the season that because they got these new bats? We played this game. That this year Paul Schemes is gonna be seventeen and four.
Unknown Speaker (34:42): I did say that.
Unknown Speaker (34:42): Because of all the new bats.
Hockey Jesus (34:44): I don't think we said 17 and
Unknown Speaker (34:45): No. But we did I I I think you made that up. I I said that's probably gonna create a situation where she has a lot more wins.
Speaker 1 (34:54): I agree with you. Henry Davis does contribute to the problem. It's it's one bat out of nine that is not gonna give you anything, and that's not good. But the team as a whole is not producing runs for Paul Skeens. So it's not just Henry Davis.
Speaker 1 (35:14): Could could it certainly help? Sure. But it's not just him. It's just it's one of those kind of like dumb luck, bad luck kind of things where for whatever reason, they're just not putting together a lot of runs when Paul Schemes
Unknown Speaker (35:29): is starting. Weird though because, you know, this is the second year it's happened.
Unknown Speaker (35:32): Right.
Hockey Jesus (35:32): You know? Last year last year was like, okay. Maybe this is an anomaly. Clearly, it's not. It's continuing to happen.
Hockey Jesus (35:40): And, we don't have the solutions, but I think getting rid of Henry Davis would be a good step forward. Or at least have the manager say, you know what, Paul? One game Mhmm. Without Davis. You have to play without.
Grand Schwabini (35:55): Well yeah. And the other thing you you you would say to a guy like him, and I'm sure it said is, look. When you leave the pirates, there's a very, very little chance that Henry Davis is going to go wherever
Hockey Jesus (36:05): you better start learning the pitch to another catcher now.
Grand Schwabini (36:09): Speaker That's actually a better sell. If you're like my, the one condition is he's my catcher. They're going to be like, I mean, if I'm another team, I'm, if I've got a stacked lineup, I'll be like, all right. But he's gonna have to earn it a little more. I mean, that's the best I would do.
Unknown Speaker (36:26): I do want to give myself
Hockey Jesus (36:27): around 50,000,000.
Grand Schwabini (36:29): I do want to give myself right now around of applause.
Unknown Speaker (36:33): You should.
Unknown Speaker (36:34): I I because I really can't.
Unknown Speaker (36:38): Is that
Unknown Speaker (36:38): graphic, man?
Unknown Speaker (36:39): I think that's some of his best work. Yeah. I'll
Speaker 1 (36:45): I'll be honest with you. I thought it was a bit confusing. The walk to home run ratio is I don't mind the whip and the win loss, but I would have liked to have maybe seen ERA instead.
Unknown Speaker (37:00): Alright. Well, you're welcome.
Unknown Speaker (37:04): Mean, Jesus Christ. That's the best way to take a compliment.
Grand Schwabini (37:08): Yeah. That's exactly right. It wasn't really even a compliment. All right. Listen, guys, your thoughts on anything you want to talk about tonight, the, you know, the world cup, the pirates, the Paul schemes thing we talked about Henry Davis, where they're going.
Grand Schwabini (37:22): Chris Chada had some Penn stuff. Do you want to address that before we move on? After I tell everybody they have to smash that subscribe button and click notification so you know the sports sports black and gold will be live every Monday night at 7PM.
Speaker 1 (37:34): Well, there was there was a US open in Oh, you wanna do US open? Golf at Shinnecock.
Hockey Jesus (37:40): Okay. Shinnecock Hills.
Speaker 1 (37:41): Shinnecock Hills. Translation, the Hamptons. Yep. So everybody there is
Unknown Speaker (37:46): extremely rich. Yes. They have money in the Hamptons? Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (37:50): It was a it was a
Speaker 1 (37:51): pretty good tournament. You know, Wynnum Clark, he won it. It was his second US Open in about three years.
Hockey Jesus (37:59): Well, you know what he was famous for at the US Open last year?
Speaker 1 (38:02): He was famous last year for throwing a fit
Unknown Speaker (38:04): and Breaking some
Unknown Speaker (38:05): old some old blockers. Right.
Unknown Speaker (38:08): Yeah. I remember that. Right. I remember that.
Speaker 1 (38:11): And in that sport, it's kind of it's kind of a shame because things stay with you in that sport. Like, he won, he was just like, I know nobody was rooting for me this weekend because I made some mistakes last year. But hopefully, I can prove to you that this is who I am. Right? Well, hey, it's easier to be in a good mood when you win.
Speaker 1 (38:29): Yeah. But, you know, look, he played really well. You know, to me, more interesting than anything else is the I feel like there's been a little bit of a fall off from Scottie Scheffler this Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (38:44): And actually If he would have won, he would have won the, like, the grands. Right.
Speaker 1 (38:47): Right. Actually, to to sort of tie it back in with the pirates, it's very much Scottie Scheffler this year is very much like a Paul Skeens.
Hockey Jesus (38:56): A lot of promise.
Speaker 1 (38:57): Yeah. He's look, he's playing well. He's constantly in the top five, but he's just not hitting those putts that he usually makes. Yeah. And therefore he's not winning the big ones.
Unknown Speaker (39:08): You know? You gotta hit the putts.
Speaker 1 (39:10): Yeah. That that's what it kinda comes down to. But hey, you know, I'll tell you what, another another reason why I can tell you that golf is a harder sport than soccer.
Unknown Speaker (39:22): Tell me.
Unknown Speaker (39:23): Oh, here we go again.
Speaker 1 (39:24): All you have to do think about it this way. All you have to do in golf is look at all the players who missed the cut and how good they are, and they still couldn't even get to the to the final weekend of a major where, like, a 100 guys make it.
Unknown Speaker (39:42): Right.
Speaker 1 (39:42): And they couldn't make it. I mean, like, Bryson DeChambeau didn't make it. You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, like, guys who won, you know, recently don't make it.
Speaker 1 (39:52): Mhmm. It's like it's that freaking hard.
Hockey Jesus (39:54): They don't even get to the next round.
Speaker 1 (39:56): Right. You know? There's no oops. Sorry. I got tackled on this one.
Speaker 1 (40:02): I'm gonna do a throw in. You know? Alright. Yeah. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (40:07): Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Crap. I got a red flag now.
Unknown Speaker (40:09): I can't play the There next
Speaker 1 (40:11): we go. But anyway, hey, hats off to all you golfers out there. It was a pretty good show.
Grand Schwabini (40:16): Alright. US Open. Anything else?
Hockey Jesus (40:19): I think I'll watch a single that's not true. I watched three holes.
Unknown Speaker (40:24): Did you?
Unknown Speaker (40:24): On Friday.
Speaker 1 (40:25): On Friday.
Hockey Jesus (40:26): While I was waiting for the soccer game to start. I had them on side by side and you know what? I got so bored with it. I did. I changed.
Unknown Speaker (40:37): I did. I mean,
Speaker 1 (40:38): I mean, the golf is way more exciting when it's the last round of amazing.
Hockey Jesus (40:42): Is. And you know what? For some reason, I maybe it's because I've watched the masters so many times. Mhmm. I just love that course so much.
Unknown Speaker (40:50): Yeah. The
Hockey Jesus (40:51): masters. And everything's familiar. Like when they do the US Open and I watched it because Oakmont because,
Unknown Speaker (40:56): you know,
Hockey Jesus (40:56): I actually have been on that course couple times, but it is ridiculous how difficult it is. You're right about that.
Speaker 1 (41:05): Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, like, when they when they show you stuff, it's like there's this one hole where basically you've got like a five foot radius around the hole. If you don't hit it there, it's like a nine foot drop all around.
Unknown Speaker (41:18): I mean, it's If you don't hit it, you're not getting on.
Unknown Speaker (41:21): Yeah. It's insane. Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (41:23): Why is Kean's so married
Unknown Speaker (41:27): to Davis as his catcher?
Grand Schwabini (41:29): To Davis as his catcher. Mike Lawrence, I I don't know.
Speaker 1 (41:33): I don't know. I mean, look Comfortability? He just feels comfortable with him. And look, I I mean, I can't I can't blame him. We don't know.
Speaker 1 (41:42): I mean, like, we've never we've never had Andy Rodriguez catch a game for us.
Unknown Speaker (41:47): Right.
Speaker 1 (41:47): So we don't know the difference. Though may maybe there's a big difference, and we don't really even know. But at the same time, you still can't put somebody out there with a one thirty seven batting average even if they do hit a couple home runs.
Unknown Speaker (42:00): Yeah. I mean Right.
Unknown Speaker (42:01): And he hasn't hit a whole bunch anyway.
Unknown Speaker (42:03): Because he may hit six. Something like that.
Unknown Speaker (42:06): I don't even
Grand Schwabini (42:07): That's, yeah. You know what? Pirates run differential, by the way, is still plus 14, but the brewers who were struggling at the beginning of the season and are now clearly in the lead in the central by five games over the cardinals and eight and half over the pirates. Their run differential is a 119. And they've also They're for real.
Grand Schwabini (42:26): Given up the least amount of runs in the central and the second least amount of runs in the entire national league. So the brewers are for real. And we talked about this at the beginning of the season. Henry Davis, let's get his stats, and then we'll move on because we are interested in Henry Davis' stats. So Hank.
Grand Schwabini (42:47): Let's find you, Hank. Hank is, as of right now, I mean, we already know he's he's batting one thirty six. One thirty two, 18. 18 for one thirty two. Mhmm.
Unknown Speaker (43:03): 18 Hitting the ball hard. For one thirty two.
Hockey Jesus (43:07): Some bad luck. He's hitting it at at players.
Grand Schwabini (43:10): Right at. Let me say that one more time for all of you Hank Davis defenders. Great kid, works hard, baseball's difficult. We understand.
Hockey Jesus (43:19): Number one pick.
Grand Schwabini (43:20): 18 for one thirty two. Sorry. Can't defend that now. Just can't do it. Skeens, you gotta find yourself another catcher, man.
Grand Schwabini (43:32): They gotta do something about this.
Unknown Speaker (43:33): Pass balls does he have?
Grand Schwabini (43:35): I don't know. And I don't freaking care.
Speaker 1 (43:37): Harder to harder to hit a fastball than to, kick a soccer ball.
Grand Schwabini (43:41): Now, Chris Chada, last question on the US Open. I've heard that you have to watch a PGA tournament in person to realize how good those guys are. Now you've seen a couple
Unknown Speaker (43:49): in person. I've I've been the old bond couple times.
Unknown Speaker (43:52): Yep.
Unknown Speaker (43:52): Yeah. You're welcome. Yeah. I gave him the tickets.
Unknown Speaker (43:54): One of them. Yeah. One of them. Anyways. Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (43:57): Should've gone. You you do you do have to go. You because once you see these holes in real life, you realize how far it is they really hit the ball. Oh, yeah. And some of the some of the some of the shoots that they they drive out of Mhmm.
Hockey Jesus (44:11): They're more narrow than they look. Oh, yeah. Mhmm. And the trees are overlapping. I mean, you know, a tree is what?
Hockey Jesus (44:20): 90% air, they say? Mhmm. No. It's not. Mhmm.
Hockey Jesus (44:23): Not on the golf course. Yeah. But yeah. Yeah. It is it is impressive to watch to watch them play.
Hockey Jesus (44:30): And you know what? I'm glad they don't use carts. Are you? Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (44:34): Yeah. I think that I I think walking. Now, I mean, that's what makes it a sport sport. You know what I mean? Like, you actually Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (44:40): Have to.
Hockey Jesus (44:41): If they were to have a caddy and he they would just get driven right to their ball every time. No. Yeah. The the one would have
Grand Schwabini (44:47): much wouldn't have to stay in shape. Why do you think half of America that's obese golf?
Speaker 1 (44:52): Do you do you realize that guys heart. That one of the things that I'm I'm actually struck tired. One of the things combos. One of the things that I'm actually struck by in watching my niece play golf is that and this is like serious stuff. This is like the junior association golf, you know, of all this kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (45:08): Right? It's amazing how the pro game is totally different than the junior's game. Like, at the junior game, you you can't have a caddy. Okay? You're not allowed to talk to anybody.
Speaker 1 (45:23): Like, you can't have your parent or your coach coach you. You can't talk to anybody. Wow. But but but the but the professional golfer can have the caddy tell them exactly everything.
Hockey Jesus (45:34): Okay. Here's your club. You're about a 125. The wind's coming out. It's about the seven miles per hour.
Hockey Jesus (45:41): That means you need to hit the seminar.
Grand Schwabini (45:42): I think I I think the idea is that once you're a professional, you've learned all that. Hopefully. And now you're you're competing at the highest level, so you have the highest available resources.
Speaker 1 (45:52): Yeah. And it's like, and there's like no noise allowed at all.
Unknown Speaker (45:55): I also feel like that sentence I just said was way too serious for this show.
Unknown Speaker (45:58): They they have people You'll make up
Speaker 1 (46:00): for people driving around on carts that are like rules professionals. Yeah. Right? And, like, they will get into you if you make freaking noise. Like, how's that now the professional game, they hit it and they go, you're
Unknown Speaker (46:13): the man. Yeah. Know what mean?
Unknown Speaker (46:16): You know what I mean?
Grand Schwabini (46:17): It's funny. You're right about that, Swabber, because my son, my youngest son, about seven years ago, got really into golf. Mhmm. And he joined, like, the junior golf association. And he went to a couple tournaments.
Grand Schwabini (46:30): Mhmm. And I went to a couple of them, and it was exactly like that.
Unknown Speaker (46:33): Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (46:33): They weren't allowed to talk. Mhmm. The younger kids could have a caddy. His stepdad was his caddy. Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (46:39): But that was more because they weren't allowed to walk around on carts and they had to move the golf clubs with him or something. Mhmm. He was like eight. And it wasn't, like, at the highest level, but Yeah. You couldn't make any noise.
Unknown Speaker (46:51): He couldn't talk to us. You had to stay away. When they would head to the next hole, you had to follow. You couldn't go ahead.
Unknown Speaker (46:57): Right. Right.
Unknown Speaker (46:58): You know, and all that kind of stuff. So, yeah, you're right. You're right. But alright, that's enough. I'm I'm I'm I'm sick of golf.
Unknown Speaker (47:03): I'm absolutely sick of golf. So we're gonna move on.
Unknown Speaker (47:05): Let's talk pucks. Let's talk hockey.
Unknown Speaker (47:08): Yeah. Are we gonna talk hockey?
Unknown Speaker (47:09): Hell yeah.
Grand Schwabini (47:09): Alright. HJ on hockey. HJ on hockey.
Speaker 1 (47:14): This Friday is the NHL draft.
Hockey Jesus (47:17): The NHL draft this Friday, round one.
Speaker 1 (47:20): Where each team will walk up to the microphone and say congratulations to the Carolina Hurricanes on winning the Stanley Cup with the third pick.
Unknown Speaker (47:28): Thank you, Buffalo, for being such a great host.
Speaker 1 (47:31): Thank you for your hospitality.
Hockey Jesus (47:33): Mhmm. You have great wings.
Grand Schwabini (47:36): We should make you know what we should do? We should we should take a sports sports road trip up to that bar.
Hockey Jesus (47:43): Anchor bar. You've never been?
Unknown Speaker (47:45): I've never been there.
Unknown Speaker (47:46): Oh, well, yeah.
Unknown Speaker (47:46): You got And you know me and chicken wings, man.
Unknown Speaker (47:48): You gotta go to Anchor.
Grand Schwabini (47:49): No. We should take a sports sports trip up there.
Unknown Speaker (47:51): Oh. Sure.
Unknown Speaker (47:52): And, maybe even meet meet Pat up there.
Unknown Speaker (47:55): I don't even
Hockey Jesus (47:55): Pat's not coming to Buffalo. He lives in Florida for freak's sake.
Unknown Speaker (47:59): Yeah. Well, I mean, Pat, like, get out and make some friends. What are
Speaker 1 (48:02): we even talking about? What's the anchor bar?
Grand Schwabini (48:03): The anchor bar is where buffalo wings were actually created.
Unknown Speaker (48:06): Oh, is that right? Okay.
Grand Schwabini (48:08): The legend is, and Pat will correct me if he's still watching and and I'm wrong, but I believe the legend is the I don't know any names, but some travelers came in one night. It must have been bad weather and they wanted something to eat. And the bar really didn't have a whole lot of food available. It was like sold out or whatever. And the lady that worked there went back and grabbed some of these little chicken wings and threw some of that hot sauce on it and then served it with, like, blue cheese and little celery sticks because that's what
Unknown Speaker (48:35): she had. Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (48:35): And then boom. It was just like, wow, this is great. Mhmm. And that that's the legend, Pat.
Unknown Speaker (48:40): Yep. Pat said he's been there.
Unknown Speaker (48:41): Pat said he's been there. Did I get that right, Pat? Give us a yes or no on that. I'm pretty sure I got 90% of
Unknown Speaker (48:46): the story. Are they good? Are they good there, Pat? Or are they just not good?
Unknown Speaker (48:50): No, they're very good.
Unknown Speaker (48:51): Are they? Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (48:51): You've been there?
Unknown Speaker (48:52): Yeah, I've been there. Okay. We stopped on our way back from when we were in Toronto.
Grand Schwabini (48:57): Sons of the owners. I don't sons of the owners, the ballistics.
Unknown Speaker (49:00): I don't like big wings though. Are
Unknown Speaker (49:03): they No. No. All altogether? You mean the all together?
Hockey Jesus (49:06): Can get you can get them either way.
Unknown Speaker (49:07): Oh, you can? Okay.
Hockey Jesus (49:08): I think I had wing dings.
Unknown Speaker (49:10): Yeah. I like wing dings. Yeah. That's that's more my speed.
Grand Schwabini (49:13): I would I would assume that they taste original. Close enough. They're good. Okay.
Hockey Jesus (49:17): Yeah. They're good. I mean, you know, for me, I'm not a wing connoisseur, so to see a wing is a wing. Mhmm. You know you have when you have a bad one.
Unknown Speaker (49:25): Let's put it down. Is true. That is true. Otherwise, it's good. It's a win.
Grand Schwabini (49:29): Yeah. Maybe what we do is we take a trip up there, maybe just a day trip, maybe one night. And we do that. And then we come back to Pittsburgh and see how we if we can compare them to the original, the great wings. And we have a couple of those a couple favorite spots around here.
Hockey Jesus (49:45): Maybe, but we're talking about hockey.
Unknown Speaker (49:46): I know. Yes. It's the dead zone.
Unknown Speaker (49:48): I I said, like There's I said there's been a Ka chuck on the move.
Hockey Jesus (49:52): There's been a Brady Ka Chuck movement. Mhmm. And nobody's gonna be happy about this.
Unknown Speaker (49:57): Is Brady Ka Chuck Can you even that good?
Hockey Jesus (50:00): Well, I mean, so it depends.
Speaker 1 (50:01): He's not the better one.
Hockey Jesus (50:04): Well, you know what? I'm not a big fan of the Ka Chuck brothers either.
Unknown Speaker (50:07): No.
Hockey Jesus (50:07): But I think you're right. I think Matthew's a little bit more talented. Mhmm. But Brady's a big MFer. I mean, he gets an he runs people over.
Hockey Jesus (50:16): Mhmm. He makes plays happen because of his size, and you can't move him out of the crease too easily. So he's very hard to play against. And the counselor's always telling me, we gotta get players that are hard to play against and he's the hardest to play against for that.
Unknown Speaker (50:29): They got, they paid a steep price.
Hockey Jesus (50:31): Well, I mean, three number ones and a number two. And and one of them is number nine. Yeah. Well, this year, right? Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (50:37): Yeah. So, they gave up their number one the next three years and then the year after that, it's their number two. I mean, it's a big price to pay but look at look at Florida now. Do you think they're not gonna make the playoffs now? Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (50:50): Right. Right.
Hockey Jesus (50:51): Think they're probably not cup favorites now? Probably probably are. Now, I mean, they got they got goalie problems. So, you know, let's just let's just leave it at that, but that's a big price to pay. And what's really interesting is Ottawa to me, were on the up.
Hockey Jesus (51:07): I think they're going to make a big move for Jason Robertson now. And he's, he's a restricted free agent. You can't tamper. You can't offer a restricted free agents a sheet until July 1. So on July 1, it's a big day.
Speaker 1 (51:21): I think they're cutting it all down in Ottawa. I think they're restarting
Hockey Jesus (51:25): maybe, but I mean, remember they have Stutzla and, Sanderson,
Unknown Speaker (51:31): They're talking about
Hockey Jesus (51:32): They still have two really good centers.
Speaker 1 (51:33): They're talking about they wanna trade one of their centers, either Pinto or Cousins.
Hockey Jesus (51:37): I mean, Cousins is too big. He's not that great. You don't think so? Shane is pretty solid. Be crazy to trade Shane Pinto.
Hockey Jesus (51:44): And I don't think they will. I think they're gonna go get a winger to play with Stutzla, and they'll have they'll they'll be okay. Look. They didn't wanna they don't they they play a very similar system to Florida, but Florida has everybody who can play that way. They only had Brady Kachuk that could play that way.
Hockey Jesus (52:01): Mhmm. All these other guys are just fast speedsters. They play more like Montreal. Mhmm. You know, they play that speed game.
Hockey Jesus (52:07): They like the they like the score on the rush. So I'm I'm a little surprised, but basically, what what had been reported is Brady Kochuck said, I'm not signing in two years. So you you can keep me for two years, but I'm not resigning with you, which is exactly what Matthew Kochuck did out up in Calgary. Right. So why not get three first round picks in a second round pick right now for him?
Hockey Jesus (52:30): Yeah. I mean, I hate the fact that he went to Florida. That's just that's just crazy, but everybody wants to go to Florida now. Everyone wants to go to Florida or Vegas. Right.
Unknown Speaker (52:40): You know why?
Unknown Speaker (52:41): There's no taxes.
Unknown Speaker (52:41): There's no taxes. Right. You know, you want to know what kind of a raise this guy just got.
Unknown Speaker (52:45): Right, right.
Hockey Jesus (52:46): From from being up in Canada. Right. But now going to Florida. Right. He probably, I think his contract's like 7 and a half million.
Hockey Jesus (52:53): I I think it's 8 and a half million. He probably makes $500,000 more.
Unknown Speaker (52:58): Maybe even more than that. Yeah. Yeah. We can always ask Gemini.
Hockey Jesus (53:02): Yeah. Yeah. Well, but the the reality is it's a great move for Florida. Florida's clearly back in the running for for the cup with that move. I just wonder, and this is just me thinking out loud if the way they play so physical and their body is getting older, that maybe they can't play that way anymore.
Hockey Jesus (53:22): Know, maybe they're getting all those injuries because of the way they play that hard nosed, you know, grind them out, check them, steal the puck and score that way. I don't know. It's just the thought that I've been having about Florida. Maybe it's just because I'm jealous of them and the fact that they've got, three, three really good lines. Brad Marshman no.
Unknown Speaker (53:42): Wait. I said that wrong.
Speaker 1 (53:43): Marksham?
Hockey Jesus (53:43): Yeah. Brad Brad Marshan is gonna be their third line winger. Mhmm.
Unknown Speaker (53:48): Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (53:49): I mean They say
Unknown Speaker (53:50): there's gonna be, there could be a lot of trades this year. Lot of trades.
Hockey Jesus (53:57): Well, there has to be because the, the free agent market is garbage. There's nobody on the there's no there's no the basically, the best free agent out there defensively is Ryan Shay, which by the way, the Penguins doesn't look like they're gonna resign Ryan Shay.
Unknown Speaker (54:12): Really?
Hockey Jesus (54:13): My guess is he want he wants a six year contract. I really wanted them to go get him, but I wouldn't wanna sign him for
Unknown Speaker (54:19): I
Unknown Speaker (54:19): six or seven million six years. Yeah. It's too much. Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (54:23): I have some numbers here. I I decided to ask Gemini this question because I, you know, it's it's it's an interesting and and for some reason, the freaking I've been having trouble with Gemini. The the answers are getting, like, erased right away on this one. But basically on a $7,000,000 annual contract, an NHL play player playing for the Florida Marlin or Florida Marlin. Florida Panthers Panthers versus the Toronto Maple Leafs will take home 700 to $900,000.
Unknown Speaker (54:57): Pretty close with 500. On the 8 and a half. And it
Unknown Speaker (55:00): could be as high as 1,400,000 more.
Unknown Speaker (55:03): Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (55:03): Right. So. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (55:04): Yeah. Of course, they all wanna go play there.
Unknown Speaker (55:06): Yeah. Why not? I mean, it makes a lot of sense from a.
Grand Schwabini (55:09): I mean, you're making a Kings ransom difference.
Hockey Jesus (55:11): The weather's a little bit nicer in January. Yeah. So, what else is going on with the pens?
Unknown Speaker (55:19): Yeah, I think that's the big question is now that we're in the midst of the dead zone.
Unknown Speaker (55:22): What are the pens gonna do,
Unknown Speaker (55:24): Steve? That's right.
Hockey Jesus (55:25): I I mean, there's no doubt that Dubis wants to move up. Mhmm. The question is, does, is he moving up to go get somebody? That would be the only reason to move up. If he's, he's going to get okay talent with where they are.
Hockey Jesus (55:38): I think it's 16. And so I don't know. I think he's going to try and move up, but he tried to move up last year and he didn't. And they ended up getting Ben Kendall. Nobody knows past Okay.
Hockey Jesus (55:50): First pick's going to be Gavin McKenna. Second pick is going to probably be this kid, Stenberg. And I think there's a stud defenseman that's probably going to go one, two, three after that. Nobody really knows. Let's face it.
Hockey Jesus (56:04): I mean, you there after that, you got some really good prospects. I love Wyatt Cullen, Matt Cullen's son. Mhmm. I think he plays a great game, but he's gonna be a top 10 pick. Mhmm.
Hockey Jesus (56:14): They're not gonna be able to get him. So we'll see. I mean, I think there's gonna be, I think there's gonna be a lot of movement in the draft this year. I think you're gonna see some trades. I think you're gonna see people like, it's very possible they could trade, Ricard Raquel to move up.
Hockey Jesus (56:30): It's possible.
Unknown Speaker (56:31): I think you're gonna see trades
Hockey Jesus (56:32): I think that the draft too. I would not be surprised to see that to see that happen. And also, I wouldn't be surprised after the draft is over. So after the draft is over, two things to look forward to next week. We'll talk a little bit about this next week on the porch on Monday.
Hockey Jesus (56:48): Penn's got development camp coming up next week, which basically means all the rookies and all all the rookies who aren't expected to make the team, they get together and they play a little tournament at the end of the week. So that'll be fun to watch. Actually may go up on they have the tournament on Friday. And since nobody's working Friday because it's it'll be the July 3. I may go up there and watch watch that tournament.
Unknown Speaker (57:12): Where is it? The Lemieux Center?
Unknown Speaker (57:13): Yeah. It's up in Cranberry. Okay. So it's it's really easy to get to.
Unknown Speaker (57:16): It's a good place to watch hockey. Yeah. It really is. Yeah. Every seat's good.
Hockey Jesus (57:20): So, I'm thinking about going up there and watching that and then, of course, on July 1, the the restricted free agents, you can start offering sheets to them. There are no, they're still restricted but you if I wanted to, let's say you owned Ron Francis and I wanted him, I could say, hey, Ronnie, you can come up us.
Unknown Speaker (57:39): Know? Right.
Hockey Jesus (57:39): So What's It should be fun.
Speaker 1 (57:41): What's the regular free agency date?
Hockey Jesus (57:44): The regular free agency date has passed.
Unknown Speaker (57:48): It has? Goodbye.
Unknown Speaker (57:49): For the NHL?
Unknown Speaker (57:50): What are you
Speaker 1 (57:52): talking about? We haven't had a
Unknown Speaker (57:55): Free agents. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (57:58): Are you saying No. No.
Speaker 1 (57:59): When does it start? When do when do the unrestricted free agents Get to sign. Get to sign.
Hockey Jesus (58:07): Yeah. They all that all has already passed.
Speaker 1 (58:10): Well, there was no frenzy this year.
Hockey Jesus (58:12): No. There wasn't because there's hardly anybody that's Oh. That's worth a day.
Unknown Speaker (58:16): Oh, okay. That's why. Okay. Alright. Interesting.
Unknown Speaker (58:18): Then I missed that.
Unknown Speaker (58:19): I wonder if that's, a rarity. Do you know what I'm saying?
Unknown Speaker (58:25): Usually, there is, like, a big frenzy.
Unknown Speaker (58:27): Yeah. There's always
Grand Schwabini (58:27): a big frenzy in every sport. Every sport.
Speaker 1 (58:30): Yeah. I mean, even for even for
Grand Schwabini (58:35): We're all, like, we're all stuck on this. Like, Schwaber can't believe that he's looking it up. I I I can't believe it. I know somebody else is looking it up. And Steve is probably looking it up right now.
Grand Schwabini (58:47): I I mean, I trust HJ. I mean, it's all things
Speaker 1 (58:50): Well, it's it's everything starts July 1.
Unknown Speaker (58:55): July 1. So that includes restricted.
Speaker 1 (58:57): So restricted and regular is July 1. Okay.
Grand Schwabini (59:00): So July 1 is the date we were looking for.
Unknown Speaker (59:03): Thank you for that correction.
Grand Schwabini (59:04): Pat Pat Off Track. Got that one right. July 1, Canada Day.
Unknown Speaker (59:07): There you go. Canada Day.
Grand Schwabini (59:08): So I want I want to extend to Pat Off Track the ability to be on our show. I I I feel like he would add something. Don't you?
Unknown Speaker (59:15): He is adding something
Unknown Speaker (59:16): every week. No. I don't I don't think so.
Unknown Speaker (59:18): Most of them most of them.
Unknown Speaker (59:21): No. I'm just kidding, Pat. But but I would I wouldn't mind Pat to come on for, like, a guest appearance.
Unknown Speaker (59:26): That's what I'm saying. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (59:27): Yeah. Guest appearance.
Unknown Speaker (59:28): Yeah. Like the counselor.
Unknown Speaker (59:29): Like yeah. Exactly.
Speaker 1 (59:30): I don't know. I I got a feeling that Pat's gonna be, like, camera shy. You know? He's
Unknown Speaker (59:33): Pat? Yeah. He's With a face like that? Are you kidding me?
Speaker 1 (59:36): I call Pat he's like an email balls. You know? Like, he, you know, and
Unknown Speaker (59:40): and he'll say anything in He's got a great email.
Unknown Speaker (59:43): Anything to you in an email, but he won't say it to your face.
Unknown Speaker (59:46): Yeah. Yeah. Or or he's like a keyboard warrior. Right.
Unknown Speaker (59:49): Right. Exactly. Keyboard warrior.
Unknown Speaker (59:51): You know what, Pat? I'm gonna defend you here. You are not a keyboard warrior because we have hung out with you. Oh, have had many, many cocktails.
Unknown Speaker (59:57): He could go toe to toe.
Grand Schwabini (59:58): And the guy a guy who can wake up at, like, 7AM after drinking until 03:00 in the morning and walk out and say good morning with a drink in his hands. Mhmm. Yeah. I mean I'm
Unknown Speaker (1:00:09): not sure he can do that anymore.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:11): He can do it.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:11): I don't think so.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:12): He did it down in Key West.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:14): That was years ago. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:15): Well That was few years ago.
Grand Schwabini (1:00:18): We're gonna find out in Philly if they come down for the what do you think about that idea?
Unknown Speaker (1:00:22): Yeah. It's a good idea.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:23): Yeah. Because we
Unknown Speaker (1:00:23): can do a sports right there. For her to go in.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:25): Yeah. We can do that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:27): And we're gonna stay in Philly.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:28): And it's it's in Philly. We've all been there.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:29): Right. I'm gonna beg the wife for the corporate card so we can get a nice hotel. Not a banging hotel. Just a nice hotel.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:35): Corporate? Corporate card. Yeah. I'm gonna
Unknown Speaker (1:00:37): beg her for
Unknown Speaker (1:00:37): it. So we
Unknown Speaker (1:00:37): can put it we'll put it on the, you know, on the business. Nice. Yeah. I love it. I like the It's a business.
Speaker 1 (1:00:43): It's good. We should get something for the sponsorship. Yeah. Hilarious. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:46): Right? Yeah. Absolutely.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:48): Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Something.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:50): I'm not gonna let her know these.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:51): I will. Alright.
Grand Schwabini (1:00:52): Listen, guys. Anything more on hockey?
Hockey Jesus (1:00:54): Ron Francis got signed. That's true. The front office. So he's gonna be doing some.
Unknown Speaker (1:00:59): I like that news. I think that's good news.
Hockey Jesus (1:01:01): Yeah. Well, and, you know, new word on the street is once the new owners take over the Hoffman Group, they haven't quite taken over officially yet. They're bringing in Mario. So he's gonna be more prominent in in making decisions and being visible, in the organization, which is good. Just gonna be good for the organization.
Hockey Jesus (1:01:18): And lastly, I will be going down to the arena on Thursday to talk about buying a maybe a half season plan. Really? Mhmm.
Unknown Speaker (1:01:28): Who why what are they having like a a sale? Like a presentation or something? They have
Hockey Jesus (1:01:34): like an open house where, you know, they're like, wouldn't you wanna get into this suite? Look how nice it is. Mhmm. But then they take you down to the I think it's us, Magus, or whatever that that place is where you can like watch the players come out and they take you down there. It's basically a dog and pony show to try and get.
Unknown Speaker (1:01:50): And they hype it. They hype it.
Hockey Jesus (1:01:51): Try and get you to spend like $75,000 with them. But I'm like looking to spend like maybe $3 or something. Let's let's get let's get a
Unknown Speaker (1:02:01): go fund me for HJ
Unknown Speaker (1:02:02): to
Unknown Speaker (1:02:02): to spend $75.
Unknown Speaker (1:02:04): Go fund you together. Gonna do a go fund. Let's say your house burnt down.
Unknown Speaker (1:02:07): I mean, you can't.
Unknown Speaker (1:02:09): Can't say
Unknown Speaker (1:02:10): anything. Right.
Grand Schwabini (1:02:13): HJ on hockey. In case you don't know this, HJ preaches on the podcast during the regular season after every single damn penguins game, every single game guys. So you can listen to him, his breakdown of the game and the season as it goes on throughout the NHL playoffs, throughout the Stanley cup. And even in the dead zone, the guy knows more about hockey than I know about the back of my own hand. How about that?
Grand Schwabini (1:02:38): How about that for a comparison?
Unknown Speaker (1:02:39): That's true. It's Dan.
Unknown Speaker (1:02:41): Interesting. And it is true.
Hockey Jesus (1:02:42): And Pat says I'm more of a 10 game package guy. I'm definitely getting a 12 game package.
Unknown Speaker (1:02:47): It is.
Hockey Jesus (1:02:47): A 100%. Is Pat coming in? May upgrade to the 21 game.
Grand Schwabini (1:02:51): I'll tell you what, Pat, you come up and spend some time here with HJ and help pay for that extra 10 games. You know what
Hockey Jesus (1:02:57): I'm Pat, you come up. I'll take you to hockey game. You know, that's that's, that's a no brainer.
Unknown Speaker (1:03:01): There you go.
Grand Schwabini (1:03:02): Alright. HJ on hockey. Thanks for being here, guys. We're gonna move on. If you haven't already, man, click that subscribe button, click notifications.

Grand Schwabini (1:03:39): So follow us on the podcast. And of course, you can visit our website, porchlive.com, which I'm gonna be overhauling as well. You guys, we got a lot of a lot of a lot of new shit coming on here. Steelers, this is this is the Nah. To me, this is the toughest time of year.
Grand Schwabini (1:03:55): Steelers OTAs and preseason. The black and gold are back breaking down early takeaways.
Unknown Speaker (1:03:59): Didn't get away with.
Speaker 1 (1:04:00): I got actually, I got nothing for you on the Steelers.
Hockey Jesus (1:04:03): I mean, there's really nothing to talk about. Why do you okay. Here's the Steelers story. Training camp's coming soon. We'll be back.
Hockey Jesus (1:04:10): There you go. That was it. That's all we need.
Unknown Speaker (1:04:12): Yeah. I mean
Unknown Speaker (1:04:13): Come on. There's there's nothing new with this deal.
Unknown Speaker (1:04:15): No. There really isn't.
Hockey Jesus (1:04:16): I I mean to make things up.
Grand Schwabini (1:04:18): I well, and and everybody does make things up. I I just want to, let let's make some let's make some predictions right now.
Speaker 1 (1:04:27): What'd you say? The too early prediction?
Grand Schwabini (1:04:29): Let's, yeah, let's do the too early pre well, it doesn't have to be too early. Let's make some predictions on who we think may or may not come out of training camp and actually don a steelers uniform on the sidelines when the season begins. So who do you think is gonna be cut?
Hockey Jesus (1:04:48): Oh, who's gonna be cut?
Grand Schwabini (1:04:49): Yeah. And Mike says brings it right up. Yep. That that's exactly where I was going, Mike. Exactly where I was going.
Unknown Speaker (1:04:57): Okay.
Unknown Speaker (1:04:58): I'll say Rudolph will be cut. I mean, but it's just a guess.
Hockey Jesus (1:05:07): That was my guess. I I think I think it could be, Assante Samuel in the in the in the secondary.
Unknown Speaker (1:05:15): Yeah. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:05:17): There you go.
Grand Schwabini (1:05:17): I I think that Will Howard is going to be cut.
Unknown Speaker (1:05:20): There you go.
Grand Schwabini (1:05:21): And I think it's because he's not McCarthy's guy and I don't care what they're saying. I think what they're doing by showing all this video in the past, you know, in the recent past of of McCarthy working with them is there. And obviously
Unknown Speaker (1:05:37): They're hyping him up.
Grand Schwabini (1:05:38): So You got it. Obviously, Aller and Howard are gonna get a lot of
Unknown Speaker (1:05:47): You alright? You alright there? I'm not.
Unknown Speaker (1:05:53): Is it something I said? I just wanna know that. Is it something I said or
Unknown Speaker (1:05:56): did No. You It was it was something I swallowed.
Unknown Speaker (1:05:58): There you go. Oof. I don't like hearing that.
Speaker 1 (1:06:00): I don't like hearing that either. Actually, though You know what? I guess I can't swallow. Actually, I do have something that we could talk about regarding regarding the Steelers. Now we I I'm gonna tell you flat out the Steelers are gonna have no interest simply because, you know, McCarthy's guy is probably Drew Aller.
Speaker 1 (1:06:20): But the supplemental NFL draft has that quarterback
Unknown Speaker (1:06:25): Yeah.
Speaker 1 (1:06:25): That Soresby with the gambling issue. Oh, right. Who you know, the folks who actually, you know, talk about the talent, say he's a first round talent. You know? And it's I've heard this.
Speaker 1 (1:06:39): It's kinda it's kinda rare that you've got an opportunity to, you know, make a bid for a potential franchise quarterback. Now I haven't heard one single report of anybody saying that the Steelers might be interested.
Unknown Speaker (1:06:55): That's because they're not.
Speaker 1 (1:06:56): Probably because they're not because they drafted Drew Aller. But that's an interesting thing that that's out there. Would you have interest in this guy? You know, look, on one hand, could say gambling problem. It's kind of a card sin.
Speaker 1 (1:07:15): You should never bet on your own football team. On the other hand, you could also say, I mean, for crying out loud, the guy's like 19 years old. How many stupid things did you do at 19 years old? None. Right.
Speaker 1 (1:07:28): You know what I mean? You know, his college coach came out and said he's got a great he's a great guy. He's got great character. I mean, who the hell knows really? But at least as far
Unknown Speaker (1:07:38): as All all of these kids now gamble. All of these kids gamble on their phone. I mean, I I get it. He he knew he wasn't supposed to, but they all do it now.
Speaker 1 (1:07:46): Right. And I mean, it it isn't it also kinda silly too that, like, you know, you put on, you know, SportsCenter, ESPN, and all these guys are talking about, like, it would be a hard no for me. That's the cardinal sin. Meanwhile, DraftKings promotes your sport.
Unknown Speaker (1:08:03): Right. Yeah. Know. Know. Meanwhile meanwhile, when you look on It's gonna be a problem.
Speaker 1 (1:08:08): You when you look at the scores, they have a whole thing now, a whole, like, disclosure section on, you know, bet at your own risk. It's a it's a bad idea on on ESPN's website. You know what I mean? So it's Right. You know, I I don't know.
Speaker 1 (1:08:23): I mean, I sort of feel like if if if my team didn't have definitive answer at starting quarterback, I would make a play for him. Now let listen.
Hockey Jesus (1:08:36): The the way You gotta look at him. Yeah. I don't know if you make a play for him.
Speaker 1 (1:08:40): Well, here here's the here's the way it works. So, you know, it it's in the order of the actual draft and each team gets the chance to make a claim for him in a particular round. So like let's let's say that the Arizona Cardinals put a second round grade on them. Okay? So if anybody put a first round on them,
Unknown Speaker (1:09:04): that that team would
Speaker 1 (1:09:05): that team would get them. But when it goes to the second round, then it would only be maybe the two teams in front of the cardinals would have a chance. And if not, then the cardinals get them. So, like, for example, you could take a flyer. You could say like, hey, we'll put up a fifth for him.
Speaker 1 (1:09:20): You know? And, hey, you just have nobody if everybody just stayed away from him, let's bring the guy in the camp.
Grand Schwabini (1:09:26): But I don't think anybody's gonna stay away from him. I I I think somebody's gonna grab him.
Unknown Speaker (1:09:30): You think somebody's gonna
Hockey Jesus (1:09:31): grab I would agree with you, but they already have too many quarterbacks. Like, you're gonna bring another quarterback in.
Unknown Speaker (1:09:37): Yeah. Well, but my my thought is
Unknown Speaker (1:09:39): That's the problem.
Unknown Speaker (1:09:40): My thought is, do
Unknown Speaker (1:09:41): you Your have thought is why not?
Hockey Jesus (1:09:42): I would say if they didn't go and get Aller this year, yes.
Speaker 1 (1:09:45): I mean, my my thought is basically this. And I I I kind of understand that you gotta you gotta take the stance of you have conviction what you're doing.
Unknown Speaker (1:09:55): But the same time been that
Speaker 1 (1:09:57): But at the same time, I sort of look at it as right now, granted, you've got four quarterbacks on the roster right now. But but to me, do you even have one? You know, who's the future of your franchise?
Unknown Speaker (1:10:10): Yeah. That's the big question. No. You have
Hockey Jesus (1:10:12): three you have two question marks and a backup.
Unknown Speaker (1:10:15): Right.
Unknown Speaker (1:10:15): And an old man.
Unknown Speaker (1:10:16): Right.
Unknown Speaker (1:10:16): So so if that's the case, why not add a fifth?
Unknown Speaker (1:10:20): You know, look. If if
Speaker 1 (1:10:21): he comes in and and, lights up preseason or so obvious in practice that he's so much more talented than these other guys, then you cut those guys.
Grand Schwabini (1:10:30): Or or think about this. You know, you mentioned his age. 19, 20. Mhmm. He's a little young to be starting in the NFL.
Grand Schwabini (1:10:39): Pick him up, see what you got. Mhmm. Stash him on the practice squad, whatever technicalities you have. Know, injury. Something happens.
Grand Schwabini (1:10:46): Mhmm. You've got him. I mean, I don't disagree with you. I don't disagree with you at all. I don't know how realistic it is.
Grand Schwabini (1:10:53): And I certainly don't think that's something the Steelers you know what? I can't imagine that somewhere in in that boardroom when Omar Khan is is talking and and McCarthy and everybody else in there, they obviously talk about supplemental draft and who's out there and and possible needs. There's no way that idea is not being floated. But it could be an idea where it's like somebody, you know, okay. Let's open the floor.
Unknown Speaker (1:11:18): Right.
Grand Schwabini (1:11:18): Hey. What about this guy? You know, not something we're willing to consider right now. That that's as far as it would probably go. Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (1:11:25): But I I don't think it's a bad idea, and I think you're absolutely right. The future of this franchise's quarterback position is in complete disarray, and we've already had thousands of discussions why over the last ten years, eight years on this podcast. So, yeah, why not? Why not?
Speaker 1 (1:11:46): I've actually even heard some reports that the Eagles might put in a claim.
Grand Schwabini (1:11:49): See. And and and that's that's what a good organization does.
Hockey Jesus (1:11:52): Well, I mean, if you have the luxury of, you know, having a third quarterback position open, that's where I see it. Yeah. The problem I have with what Mark's saying is they already have two question marks. Three question marks is worse than two question marks in my opinion.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:07): Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (1:12:07): Cash. Because you have to develop somebody down the line. Yeah. If you have another person to develop, it just takes your resources away.
Grand Schwabini (1:12:14): Mike Lawrence. I know he's really young, but I feel like he has too much baggage. Listen, Mike.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:19): Don't care
Unknown Speaker (1:12:19): about the baggage. Is, like, standard in life. Right?
Hockey Jesus (1:12:23): The Steelers baggage, their bags pretty large.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:26): Every team has baggage.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:27): I know.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:27): You know?
Unknown Speaker (1:12:28): But I
Unknown Speaker (1:12:28): mean, not even the really good ones.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:29): Yeah. You can go back.
Grand Schwabini (1:12:31): Now, Chris, Todd, I'm gonna I'm gonna give you a warning here. Alright? We love you. Alright? We we love that you're here every week, but I do not want to hear Kenny Pickett's name on this podcast.
Hockey Jesus (1:12:42): But since he's brought it up.
Grand Schwabini (1:12:43): Ever again. Ever again. You're right. That wasn't this.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:47): It was it was actually it was it was Culbert.
Unknown Speaker (1:12:49): Yeah. It was Culbert that defended it. Yeah. Was Colbert. Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (1:12:52): He was Colbert. Conn defended. Yeah. Kenny Pickett's the the pick for Kenny Pickett. It was
Unknown Speaker (1:12:56): it was it was Colbert. Of
Hockey Jesus (1:12:58): course he would do And what Colbert said, did you hear what he said? Mhmm. He compared him to Sam Darnold.
Unknown Speaker (1:13:03): Right.
Hockey Jesus (1:13:03): What? He did. He compared him to Sam. Like, Kenny, clearly, Kenny has talent and he just needs to find the right team and sometimes it takes quarterbacks longer. Maybe I hope that someday he'll end up on a team where he'll be like Sam Arnold.
Grand Schwabini (1:13:18): Well, Kenny Pickett won a Super Bowl before Sam Arnold, so he's kinda right.
Unknown Speaker (1:13:21): Yeah. Well, his whole his whole Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:13:24): That's true.
Speaker 1 (1:13:25): His whole thing was we felt that Kenny Pickett was a ready now win quarterback, and he did that for us. He went fourteen and ten.
Unknown Speaker (1:13:36): Well, I mean, what how's that different than ten and seven?
Unknown Speaker (1:13:38): Right.
Unknown Speaker (1:13:39): You know what I mean?
Unknown Speaker (1:13:39): Yeah. It's seven and five Right. Two years.
Unknown Speaker (1:13:42): And and and he didn't set the world on fire doing it. Yeah. You know?
Unknown Speaker (1:13:45): No. One last thing on the Steelers before we move to, what we're watching. Where would you rank Omar Khan in the GM ranking says OC?
Hockey Jesus (1:13:53): So what? One out one or 32? Mhmm. Somewhere in between there? He's probably a solid 26.
Speaker 1 (1:14:02): I I mean, I'd I'd say it's probably still too early at this point really to give him a ranking, but Mhmm. I mean, I I That's true.
Unknown Speaker (1:14:08): He's only been a GM for what? Six years now? No. No. I think, like, less than that.
Unknown Speaker (1:14:14): Less than that? Like, three years.
Unknown Speaker (1:14:15): Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (1:14:16): Yeah. I mean I'm gonna find out right now.
Hockey Jesus (1:14:18): I I Well well, Colbert, that pick was in 2022. So, yeah, three years. Yeah. This was this was his fourth Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:14:27): I mean, I don't know. I mean, I I I'd say he's probably somewhere between, like, 15 and 20. I don't know.
Unknown Speaker (1:14:34): So I feel a little bit worse than you do. But Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:14:37): Yeah. 2022. May of May of May 2022.
Unknown Speaker (1:14:41): 2022.
Grand Schwabini (1:14:41): After I I would actually say, okay. So let's let's do it this way. This is how I'm gonna do it. I think it is really, like grand Schwabini said, it's too early to really give him, like, a grade because he inherited Mike Tomlin, and he inherited that staff. Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (1:15:01): And he inherited Kevin Colbert's drafts, you know, the the results of that. So right now, I would put him in the middle of the pack. I'd put him maybe maybe on the the lower the lower half of the league, maybe seventeen, eighteen. I wouldn't go as far as the twenties. Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (1:15:19): And that's because he has been a part of the the this quarterback shuffle they've been doing has just been mind blowing, but that was also with a very strong handed head coach who was basically in charge of the whole thing. I know McCarthy hiring McCarthy gave him the ability to kind of insert himself a little bit more into the process because that that was probably, you know, McCarthy wanted the job. He's not gonna walk in there and be like, I make all the decisions. You know? So we'll see where he ends up.
Hockey Jesus (1:15:49): Conn is now drafted two quarterbacks who have yet to play a snap in the NFL.
Grand Schwabini (1:15:53): Yeah. That that that is true. That is true.
Unknown Speaker (1:15:55): Well, they're lower round quarterbacks.
Grand Schwabini (1:15:56): Yeah. They are lower round. And also
Hockey Jesus (1:15:59): chose to take them.
Grand Schwabini (1:16:00): And also the owner and the previous coach and the current coach had a fascination and have a fascination with Aaron Rodgers wearing a Steelers uniform. And I I I would wager to say that unless Aaron Rodgers wins a Super Bowl this year, this is the year that fascination wears off.
Unknown Speaker (1:16:17): Well, we said that last year. Yeah. But I think he's back.
Unknown Speaker (1:16:21): I think there was always some question last year.
Hockey Jesus (1:16:23): Well, we always said that if he wins a playoff game, he's back and he didn't win a playoff game. I believe we all said, no, he won't be back if he loses a playoff game. Well, he's back.
Unknown Speaker (1:16:32): We did we did say that. I I agree. I mean I agree.
Hockey Jesus (1:16:35): Nobody knows what's the frigs going on with quarterback position.

Hockey Jesus (1:18:45): Well, since we were talking about the quarterback position, I thought it would be fun to go back and watch a 30 for 30 that ESPN put out on the tuck rule. I
Speaker 1 (1:18:54): mean Can I I have not? Can I ask a question
Unknown Speaker (1:18:57): Yes?
Speaker 1 (1:18:57): Before you get into it? My question is and I'm not going to ridicule you because you're not Chris Klein.
Unknown Speaker (1:19:03): Funny.
Speaker 1 (1:19:04): But what I actually wanna know is, was the right call made or was this total bullshit and it should have been a fumble recovered by Woodson?
Hockey Jesus (1:19:18): Well, this doesn't really help. But what was really cool was Charles Charles Woodson and, Tom Brady got together and they watched it together. Mhmm. Which was a lot of fun. I've I forgot these guys were teammates.
Hockey Jesus (1:19:33): Yeah. Michigan. Right. And and and Charles Woodson was the shit. He won the he won the Heisman.
Hockey Jesus (1:19:38): Yeah. And Brady was just a freaking nobody. Yep. Right? And he he was talking shit on him, and they they showed the play so many times from so many different angles.
Hockey Jesus (1:19:46): Like, for example, Woodson actually hit him in the head before he hit the ball. Mhmm.
Unknown Speaker (1:19:54): And should have been a penalty.
Hockey Jesus (1:19:56): And that should have been a penalty. It should've. Mhmm. But what happened was when he was coming down, Woodson's hand propelled the ball forward. Mhmm.
Hockey Jesus (1:20:08): Which made it worse. It made it look like he was actually trying to throw the ball. Mhmm. When when it looked like Woods, it was Woodson's hand that hit the ball that made it look like it was going forward. The the referee who who made the call, I forget his name.
Hockey Jesus (1:20:21): Mhmm. He he's adamant that it was a 100%. It was a 100%. He was talking the ball. He wasn't throwing it.
Hockey Jesus (1:20:28): It was, it was, it was, he was, he was trying to bring it down, but his arm was going forward and because his arm was going forward, it was a forward pass, which Brady even said he wasn't trying to throw the ball, but there's no nothing in the rule that says what is the intent of the quarterback. It's just the motion of his arm and because it was going forward and then Woodson hit it and it made it look like it went forward when it really didn't even really go forward. It kinda kinda went to the side. Mhmm. It was it it it I to me, they're never gonna change it.
Unknown Speaker (1:21:03): Right.
Hockey Jesus (1:21:03): But to me, Brady admitted that he wasn't trying to throw the ball. And actually, before that play was was run, Eric Allen was on the other side of the play. He was listening to the coach tell the play. He was he was listening to Belichick tell Brady to play. So he knew what the play was gonna be.
Hockey Jesus (1:21:26): So he jumped the cut, and that's why Brady hesitated because Eric Allen was like, I'm gonna intercept this ball because I know exactly where it's gonna go because he said
Unknown Speaker (1:21:34): it
Hockey Jesus (1:21:34): it was like trips to one side, and he said, throw it to the backside, and that was the side Allen was on. So he was like, I got this. All you gotta do is lay off, and at the right moment, take off. Mhmm. And when he did, that's what caused Brady to hesitate, and that's why he that's why he got sacked because Woodson came in plain as day.
Hockey Jesus (1:21:51): Nobody even blocked it. So after the after the fumble, which was wild, Brady actually tried to kick the guy. He tried to kick him from getting the fumble. And and Woodson was like, look. You kicked him.
Unknown Speaker (1:22:03): He's like, yeah. I I tried to kick him. Why? I didn't wanna play him for the ball. You know?
Hockey Jesus (1:22:07): And then he jumped on the ball. It it was such a wild play. There
Unknown Speaker (1:22:11): was, like, so
Hockey Jesus (1:22:11): I I remember. There were so many things, like, that could've happened even after that. Snowing on top of that. I mean, it was snowing. Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (1:22:19): Like, you gotta you have to watch this because this is this is basically the play that, you know, basically propelled Tom Brady to to his first super.
Speaker 1 (1:22:28): I agree. If he if that's a fumble and the Raiders recover, Tom Brady might not even be the starting quarterback the next year.
Hockey Jesus (1:22:37): That's exactly what they were talking about. And Woodson was like, our team was so good. He was like, they were they were all because they played the next week in Pittsburgh. Mhmm. And that was the Cordell Stewart game.
Unknown Speaker (1:22:48): Yeah.
Hockey Jesus (1:22:48): That supposedly he blew. I was at that game actually. And, and Brady Brady got hurt in that game. Against against the Steelers. So, just wild.
Hockey Jesus (1:23:00): You have to watch this like if if you care about any like major moments in sports history, it it one, it was fun to watch these guys go back and forth because they're ultra right? And and Brady was pretty real about it by saying, you know, he knew he wasn't trying to throw the ball but the referee was also adamant about it that that his arm was going forward and there was no way that he was not, he was going to call that a fumble no matter what And you know what? I think his name was Walt Harris that that Mhmm. That made that call. He never raft against the Raiders ever again in his career.
Unknown Speaker (1:23:33): Well, I mean, so that would be that would be somewhat dangerous.
Unknown Speaker (1:23:37): So what so
Unknown Speaker (1:23:38): what is so what is the rule? The so it was it was called a pass.
Hockey Jesus (1:23:42): It was called an incomplete pass.
Speaker 1 (1:23:44): Okay. Now what does it mean if he were to decide to tuck it?
Unknown Speaker (1:23:50): If he said if he
Unknown Speaker (1:23:51): Could it then have been a fumble?
Hockey Jesus (1:23:52): Yes. If he if he said that he was tucking it, then then the ball came loose, that means it's a fumble.
Speaker 1 (1:23:58): Right. Yep. And so basically, Brady admitted that he wasn't trying to throw it. So it really was a fumble by by in his in his mind.
Hockey Jesus (1:24:09): In Brady's mind, he fumbled the ball. Yeah. And he he he thought the game was over. Right. And and that was that.
Unknown Speaker (1:24:15): Yep. Yep.
Hockey Jesus (1:24:17): Then after that, they they got, you know, they kicked the field goal to tie the game.
Unknown Speaker (1:24:21): Right.
Unknown Speaker (1:24:21): Right? Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (1:24:22): Yeah. And there you have it. So And there you have it. HJ, the tuck rule of 30 for 30 production. He's calling it a must watch with two thumbs up.
Grand Schwabini (1:24:30): Must watch. Alright. The grand Schwab beanie is rebooting something.
Speaker 1 (1:24:35): Berlin. Money heist. The money heist universe has done it again. This is the I believe there's three money heists, and this is the second Berlin. And, I'll tell you what, they're all good.
Speaker 1 (1:24:52): They're all good. I I mean, I have to imagine thinking back on it so long ago since I watched the first one. Probably the first one has to be the best, I'm guessing. But I'll tell you what, this one, I think, was the next best of the of the other four.
Unknown Speaker (1:25:10): And
Speaker 1 (1:25:12): so it was called the what's it called? The the lady, I can't see it with that painting. Hermione? Yeah. So what that is, that's a a Leonardo da Vinci painting.
Speaker 1 (1:25:27): Oh, okay. And so basically in this in this latest heist, he gets contacted by a guy who is actually an art thief, and he's looking for the best out there to steal the lady of her mind. And lots of twists and turns. I mean, I won't give it away.
Grand Schwabini (1:25:49): But look, if It's dubbed. Right? It's in German?
Speaker 1 (1:25:54): I don't know. I mean, to be honest, I mean, I was watching it. Every everybody seems like their their their lips match. I don't
Unknown Speaker (1:26:03): know. Okay.
Unknown Speaker (1:26:04): I don't know. But you and here's the other thing too. You can you can actually watch them out of order. You know, you don't actually have you don't actually have
Unknown Speaker (1:26:14): build on the other.
Speaker 1 (1:26:14): Yeah. I mean, they they kind of do. They kind of don't. I mean, like, for for example, in this one, you know, the the main guy who was in the first three, you know, and then Berlin was kind of like the second in charge. Mhmm.
Speaker 1 (1:26:28): Now the, you know, the two Berlin's, the Berlin's in charge. So, like, know, at the end of this this, you know, this series, you know, the main guy comes back for one episode. But, you know, like, say, if you didn't know who it was, you know, but but it's but you can watch them separately.
Unknown Speaker (1:26:44): It's action.
Speaker 1 (1:26:45): Yeah. It's just great action. You know, you're guessing throughout. You're wondering how in the world they're gonna do it.
Hockey Jesus (1:26:50): Good banter.
Speaker 1 (1:26:51): Yeah. And Good banter. You know, there there's always love story kind of involved in it as well. Mhmm. And it's always just like the most impossible thing that you could ever do for
Unknown Speaker (1:27:02): a heist. You know what I mean? That's what makes it
Unknown Speaker (1:27:04): You know
Unknown Speaker (1:27:04): what mean? That's what makes it great, though.
Speaker 1 (1:27:06): Right. Exactly. So, yeah, they did it again. Berlin season two. Money heist.
Unknown Speaker (1:27:12): Money heist. Yeah. Berlin. Mhmm. Alright.
Grand Schwabini (1:27:14): Two thumbs up. Grant Schwabini. I had forgotten. I had never watched this movie before. And last week sometime, I did have, like, an hour and a half.
Grand Schwabini (1:27:24): Mhmm. And I decided it popped up on my, you know, available list, and I thought I watch it. I have to watch this. Concussion. Concussion.
Unknown Speaker (1:27:34): Oh, yeah.
Grand Schwabini (1:27:35): I've actually never watched concussion.
Unknown Speaker (1:27:38): I never watched either
Unknown Speaker (1:27:39): I think I did. With Will Smith.
Unknown Speaker (1:27:40): I think I did.
Grand Schwabini (1:27:41): Yeah. Basically concussion. And I'm sure a lot of you guys, you know, watching, listening, remember this movie. I think it was 2015.
Unknown Speaker (1:27:49): It
Grand Schwabini (1:27:50): was about a doctor, actually, well, a doctor, but a forensic pathologist who worked in the Allegheny County coroner's office with Cyril Wecht, who, who was the, Mike Webster ended up tragically, taking his own life. And this doctor played by Will Smith, I can't remember his name, you know, shame on me. He noticed some abnormalities in the brain. He did a full autopsy, and that led him down the road because then there was Justin Strelzik, who also took his own life in a car crash.
Unknown Speaker (1:28:25): Yep.
Grand Schwabini (1:28:26): And it led him down the road of investigating a lot of these. And the pushback from the NFL was insane.
Unknown Speaker (1:28:33): Oh, yeah.
Unknown Speaker (1:28:34): It was insane.
Unknown Speaker (1:28:35): Yeah. I believe.
Grand Schwabini (1:28:36): And then finally after, you know, the, the, I I can't remember his name. God rest his soul. The guy that was running the NFL players association who actually was against this guy. He ended up
Unknown Speaker (1:28:48): Gene Upshaw.
Grand Schwabini (1:28:49): No. Oh, God. It's a player that played, when when we were young. We knew and Drew peer not Drew Pearson.
Unknown Speaker (1:28:57): Preston Pearson.
Grand Schwabini (1:28:58): No. No. No. Anyway, what I'm saying is eventually, it caught up with him and he took his own life. And when that happened, it kinda started this cascade, and then you had the junior say out and
Unknown Speaker (1:29:10): then Right.
Grand Schwabini (1:29:11): Literally countless others before and after. And it really brought it to the forefront. Cyril Wecht was involved in this. They, they, you know, he, he really struggled and there were times where he was actually not overtly but but very, I I wanna say softly threatened with violence.
Unknown Speaker (1:29:34): Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (1:29:34): Mhmm. You know, I gotta say, like, for all of those people who say a pat off track says Troy Vincent. No. It wasn't Troy Vincent. For all of those people who who think that the NFL is is doing anything about concussions now, I think they're doing more.
Grand Schwabini (1:29:53): But in all honesty, I think they could do a hell of a lot more. And I I, you know, we do get on these players and I'm gonna take this graphic down so we don't get in trouble here, but we do we do get on these players when they talk about this stuff. You'll hear people say, well, I mean, you you got a 100,000,000 guaranteed contract. You got this. You got that.
Grand Schwabini (1:30:16): You know? What are you bitching about? You know, you shouldn't spend all your money. You shouldn't all that kind of stuff. But the bottom line is they're human.
Grand Schwabini (1:30:22): You know? I mean, they're they're they're highly trained athletes, but they're human. And these concussions and the statistics around them, it was something like when he studied, he went back and watched film of of like Mike Webster. And he said the average, like it was something like, and I'm gonna get this wrong guys. So, but but you'll you'll understand.
Grand Schwabini (1:30:42): I can't remember it exactly. It was something like the average, I don't know, wide receiver, has a helmet to helmet or head contact, like, once a game. Right. You know, most of the time they're tackled. But the average, lineman like Mike Webster would have, a concussion concussion style head contact Mhmm.
Grand Schwabini (1:31:03): Something like 19 times a game. Mhmm. So it it it's conceivable that these especially the linemen, defense and offense, they could get 10 concussions in a game. Right. And they're just not severe enough to show any symptoms.
Unknown Speaker (1:31:18): Right.
Grand Schwabini (1:31:19): And, yeah, we, you know, we we bang on these guys for having all this money and wasting their lives and all that kind of shit. But at the same time, man, they're flying around out there. They're literally taking their lives into their own hands. And I'm not necessarily saying their their actual life because we have yet to it's been close, but we have yet to see, god forbid, an actual death on the football field that lasts. I mean, DeMar Hamlin magically came back to life.
Grand Schwabini (1:31:44): Good for him. But, you know, they're taking their quality of life into their own hands. I mean, what what good's a $100,000,000 contract if you're a vegetable or if you can't, you can't figure out why the cops are chasing you and they're not chasing you. You know what I mean? Like, like, what a, what a, what a terrible, terrible story.
Grand Schwabini (1:32:02): And I, and I do believe Will Smith won the Oscar for this performance. And as bad as the press has been for him, although he's disappeared now for a few years.
Unknown Speaker (1:32:10): Yeah.
Grand Schwabini (1:32:10): What a great performance. What a great, if you haven't watched concussion and you're an NFL fan, you must watch this movie and it's over ten years old Yeah. And it still sticks.
Unknown Speaker (1:32:22): Twenty fifteen.
Unknown Speaker (1:32:23): It's still sticks.
Speaker 1 (1:32:24): I mean, for me, you know, yeah, they are doing some things, but just the fact that you would have somebody play on a Sunday and then play on a Thursday. You know what I mean? That that's just like and the fact that you would say like, alright. Let's go to 18 games. You know what I mean?
Unknown Speaker (1:32:44): Right. Right. Like, all all those kinds of things.
Unknown Speaker (1:32:46): Wonder if player safety is a thing.
Unknown Speaker (1:32:48): It really makes you wonder.
Grand Schwabini (1:32:49): Well, I mean, it's funny. You know, it's a very fine line because obviously, player safety is a thing.
Unknown Speaker (1:32:54): It's a violent sport.
Unknown Speaker (1:32:55): Or they would or they wouldn't have all the pads and the technical
Speaker 1 (1:32:59): Yeah. They got the crazy helmets now. Yeah. They've made a lot of a lot of shorter kickoff running area.
Grand Schwabini (1:33:06): Well, the equipment just through innovation has gotten better, obviously. Right. You can see that from the leather helmets all the way up to what we have now. Right. But I get I I think the point that's kinda lost on us is that there's probably a very, very small chance that they're ever going to be able to minimize concussion situations without
Unknown Speaker (1:33:30): Oh, they can fix it.
Unknown Speaker (1:33:31): How how do you think they can fit? Because I I One word.
Unknown Speaker (1:33:34): Yeah. Are you ready? Yeah. Cue the
Unknown Speaker (1:33:36): music. Robot.
Unknown Speaker (1:33:38): There you go. Alright. You think we're going to robots? Damn.
Unknown Speaker (1:33:43): You wanna see violence? Put robots out. Listen. You made you made
Unknown Speaker (1:33:46): my you made my point with one word. That that's exactly right. There it is.
Unknown Speaker (1:33:51): There it is.
Speaker 1 (1:33:51): You know who's gonna run the robot league? Me. Aliens.
Unknown Speaker (1:33:55): Ah, there it is. They already do. They are.
Grand Schwabini (1:33:58): We That's how we go out. Go out on aliens. Hey, everybody. Thanks for being here. The sports sports black and gold edition every Monday night live 7PM eastern time on YouTube and x.
