Pickett's Charge?

Pickett's Charge?

Finally.  Kenny Pickett is the Steeler's quarterback.   Don't say you weren't waiting for it.  Don't say you didn't wish for it.  Don't say you weren't saying a prayer to the Kennywood Gods since draft day.   You were.   You did.   And you got your wish.  Kenny Pickett has been anointed King in Pittsburgh.   Or King of Pittsburgh.  At least for now.  And... be careful what you wish for, Steelers Nation.

Now don't get me wrong... I'm a loyal servant of Pickettsburgh.  Or Kennyville.  Or whatever the hell we're going to call this era of Steelers football.   No, Trubisky wasn't the answer.  And he was never going to be the answer.   Why we waited until the second half of game 4 of the 2022 season - against Zack Wilson and a lowly Jets franchise - to make this decision is really the most puzzling part of this debate.   If you're gonna pull the trigger now, why didn't we just start the season with his Royal Majesty at the helm?

No, I'm not going to talk about the interceptions Pickett threw.   And I'm not going to talk about the 2 touchdowns he ran for, either.   I'm not going to mention the defensive INTs or play, the 59 yard field goal by Boswell or any of that other stuff that happens on a football field <ahem>- Royal NFL Castle - <ahem> --  that really doesn't matter.

What matters is that Pittsburgh finally got what it wished for, and that was to see Kenny Pickett play football, at home, in a Steelers uniform, for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the starting QB, cross my heart and hope to die, I'll never eat Hunts Ketchup again, sort of thing.

Ok, ok.  Enough of that.  But seriously, this season has been a long and boring one so far, and Pickett lights a spark of hope for this franchise.   At least until next week.   Let's not count this season as a winner, my fellow yinzers.   Let's give Kenny a chance to play and develop.   He deserves at least that.  And, Steelers Nation, remember that patience is a virtue.  A kingly one.
